Conception PLUS: Maiden of the Twelve Stars Review

by Chappie in

INTRO

You know a game is going to be interesting when it starts off with the childhood friend of the main character telling you that she’s pregnant. Enter Conception PLUS: Maidens of the Twelve Stars, a game that follows high school student Itsuki Yuge who finds himself transported to Kingdom of Granvania, a land plagued by impurities that can only be stopped by Itsuki with the help of the 12 star maidens.

STORY

As already stated, the game follows a high school student who is essentially the chosen one that alone has the power to defeat impurities. These impurities were created by the dark desires of people. In the lore of the game, the impurities were sealed away in 12 shrines housed in a labyrinth by the court mage using the power of the 12 star maidens. Every so often, one of the seals wears down and a hero is chosen to team up with a star maiden, forming a strong bond to once again seal the shrine. In the case of this game, all 12 of the shrine seals happened to wear out meaning that Ituski has to seal 12 shrines if he hopes to return home. That means that he will need to get close with all 12 star maidens to deepen their bonds.

CHARACTER/GIMMICKS

The gimmick in this game is that the protagonist will need to partake in classmating with each shrine maiden if he wants to protect the kingdom. Classmating is a sacred ritual where the chosen one and star maiden combine their star energy to create a star child. Star children can be one of 19 classes and, like Itsuki, have the ability to fight and defeat impurities making them vital members of the team. Their strength is limited based on the bond of the star maiden. What this means is that they have a level cap based on the Itsuki’s bond level with a particular maiden. The starting star children you get have a max level of 10. Once they hit that level, they quit growing and no longer gain experience in battle. When this happens, it’s time to send them out into the world. Doing so increases the level of Granvania, adding new things like a daycare to help level up star children and a gift shop where you can buy presents for the maidens. It also frees up your party allowing you to classmate for new stronger star children. You level up the bond with each star maiden by participating in bonding events that feel a little bit like a dating simulator. Each maiden has their own unique personality as well as likes and dislikes that can affect how you bond with each one.

COMBAT/SKILLS

Combat takes place in a giant labyrinth filled with lots of mini ones and is turn-based. Each labyrinth contains 5 floors filled with enemies and a boss at the end of each floor. You can take up to three teams of four star children into a labyrinth to fight with you and can equip your team (Itsuki included) with a weapon, piece of armor and an accessory. Each star child will have different skills depending on their class and a team of them can merge together to form a giant battle robot to deal some serious damage. There is also the option to have your team battle enemies automatically using some preset options like going all out or choosing to attack while conserving MP. Some other things to note are that there are items littered all around the labyrinth that you can collect ranging from gear upgrades to healing items. There are also various hidden traps placed around the labyrinth. They have effects such as dealing 10% damage to your team or sealing your abilities.

PROs/CONs/Recommendation

I felt the story in Conception PLUS was just okay. It was interesting enough to keep me playing but never really grew into anything beyond that. The main focus was on the bonding events with the maidens and for that I enjoyed interacting with about half of them. The other half were basically children and that is just not my thing. Having to cycle out star children regularly got a little tedious because you were always having to level up the newbies but that was made bearable with the automatic battles option. If I’m being nitpicky, I felt that the range to trigger a fight with an enemy was a little inconsistent. There were times when I would be trying to pick up an item only to initiate combat with an enemy that was a good distance away. I also didn’t like that after a fight, the enemies on the map start moving before you are fully loaded in. This allows them to charge at you before you regain control starting another battle. Also the mechanic for being at a disadvantage for being attacking from behind was really wonky. Some enemies would just appear behind you while others would attack from the side, but the game registered them as being behind you. I also felt that there was a massive spike in difficulty between the last and second to last labyrinths that felt a bit unfair. All in all, I enjoyed my time with Conception PLUS and would only recommend it to people who are new to RPGs as it isn’t too hard to pick up and play or those who really like interacting with secondary characters like the maidens.

VAMPYR Review – Back From the Dead

by Chappie in

SUMMARY

VAMPYR takes place in 19th century London and is centered around the renowned doctor Jonathan Reid following his return home after the war. His homecoming is short-lived however. Soon after his return, Jonathan awakens as a newly turned vampire in the middle of an epidemic sweeping across the country. It soon becomes clear that if London is going to survive, it will be up to Jonathan to find the source of the epidemic and stop it.

WORLD

The London in Vampyr is broken up into four major districts: The Docks, Pembroke Hospital, Whitechapel and the West End. Each district unlocks as the story progresses and is occupied by its own unique community of citizens that is held up by one specific person known as the pillar. As part of the main story, you will have to make a choice regarding the pillar of the community that will have either a positive or negative effect on the overall health of a district. The district’s health is measured by the state of the citizens that occupy it. If they have a headache or cold for example, that too will negatively impact a district’s health. Having healthy citizen is vital because the healthier a citizen, the more exp the give Jonathan if he chooses to embrace them (drink their blood, killing them for a helping of exp). You can also increase the amount of exp a citizen is worth by learning more about them in the form of hints. Something to keep in mind is that the game saves after pretty much everything you do and only has one save per game session. This means that you will have to live with the choices you make.

COMBAT

The combat of Vampyr takes place out in the open world and is done in the third person. Jonathan can wield various weapons and abilities to take on the forces of the night. Using a melee weapon drains stamina while two-handed weapons take a little bit more to swing. When using a one-handed weapon, either a firearm or an off-handed weapon can be equipped in the other hand. There are also vampire powers that Jonathan can learn to be more effective in combat such as a blood lance that gets hurled at enemies or a barrier that protects against attacks. Another mechanic in combat is the ability to stun an enemy. Under an enemy’s red health bar, is another white bar that depicts an enemy’s stun level. Certain weapons can deplete the stun bar in addition to the health bar. Fully depleting the stun bar will immobilize an enemy for a short time giving Jonathan the opportunity to bite them. Doing so will allow him to recover lost blood needed for his vampire powers and if spec’d right, deal massive damage to an enemy.

CONTENT

Outside of the main story, side quests come in the form of investigations. Jonathan can learn about an investigation from citizens across the different districts. Completing an investigation grants exp and money, but more importantly, allows Jonathan to learn a new hint about a citizen most of the time. Besides investigations, there are quite a bit of weapons to collect and even some lore objects that fill in the gaps about the state of the world in the game.

OPINION

Vampyr is a solid game and I really enjoyed the time I spent with it. The main thing I really liked was the story and how the atmosphere of the game really helped set the direction it took. Seeing the condition of each district and talking with the characters really emphasized the seriousness of the epidemic. With that being said, the main thing I didn’t really care for was the combat. It felt really slow and tedious. The vampire powers were cool, but there was only a handful and the excitement on them wore off pretty quick. I found myself using high stun weapons to weaken an enemy followed up with a bite to finish them off and that worked for pretty much every confrontation in the game.

RECOMMENDATION

I felt that the story of Vampyr and its characters made this game worth playing, especially if you into narrative driven games.

Ni No Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom Review – All Hail the King

by Chappie in

SUMMARY

Ni No Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom follows the young prince, Evan Pettiwhisker Tildrum, on his journey to create a new kingdom where everyone can live in peace. Evan is joined by various party members who are inspired by his ideals and have chosen to support him in this endeavor. Shortly into their journey, Evan and his friends discover there is an evil power at work that threatens the world. It is up to the young prince to unite the major kingdoms of the land to face this great evil.

COMBAT

Combat in Ni No Kuni II is action oriented. The player controls one of the characters in a party of three and has the option to cycle between them. All of the party members have a standard light and heavy attack along with the option to dodge and block. Each character can also use skills to increase their effectiveness in battle. Those skills range from magic attacks like a fireball to weapon attacks like a spinning slash that really increase the damage output. You can also assign little elemental spirits known as higgledies to assist you while in combat. Their help comes in the form of healing your party, summoning a cannon to shoot at the enemy, inflicting enemies with status ailments, etc. Mixing all of this together gives a combat experience that flows smoothly and doesn’t feel too repetitive.

CONTENT

There is a ton of content in Ni No Kuni II that will keep you busy for quite some time. Besides the main story quests, there are side quests, skirmishes, collectibles, corrupted enemies, dream doors, exploring and building up your kingdom. Most side quests have the player traveling throughout the land, collecting materials to turn in or fighting monsters to satisfy an objective. Next up are skirmishes, which are large scale battles where you control up to four squads of soldiers to battle enemies on the world map. Your forces are determined by the level of might you have. Using squad abilities or summoning more troops will cause your might to diminish. The battle is over as soon as you or the enemy’s might reaches zero. Outside of side quests and skirmishes, there are 3 main forms of collectibles, Higgledies, song books, and citizens (this will be covered in another section), for your kingdom. Higgledies are little spirit creatures that assist Evan and party during combat. They can be found from meeting Higgledy stone’s conditions, kingdom quests, or making them in the kingdom. Songbooks are spread throughout the world hidden in chests, as rewards for quests, or obtained by beating tainted monsters and there are 31 of them to find. The third form of collectibles comes in the form of tainted monsters that have a dark aura about them. They are upgraded versions of the normal monsters with more HP, defense, and attack making them more deadly. There are 50 of them ranging up to level 69 for you to fight and slay for a healthy amount of money and exp. The ultimate challenge in Ni No Kuni II comes in the form of 10 dream doors hidden throughout the world for you to find and can be challenging to the unprepared. They are procedurally generated areas filled with enemies, treasure chests, and no map. As you move further in, the level of the dream door rises to a max level of 5. This increases the level of the enemies in the dream door. At the end, you will fight a boss who drops a dream fragment which you will need to complete a specific side quest. If you get tired of side quests, fighting monsters, or collecting things you can always hop into your boat or zeppelin and explore the world. There are tons of out of the way areas for you to see. If that’s not your fancy, then there is always in my opinion, the best part of the game. Building up your kingdom.

BUILDING A NEW KINGDOM

A major part of Ni No Kuni II is being able to build a new kingdom where its citizens can live in peace. There are 64 buildings that can be added to your kingdom and a total of 103 citizens that can be recruited and assigned to those buildings to help the kingdom prosper. To build and upgrade buildings, you will need to generate enough kingsguilders; the currency the kingdom generates over a period of time that is used to pay for buildings and upgrades. The more buildings you build, the more kingsguilders you can make. The kingdom can be upgraded 3 times to a maximum level of 4 while buildings can be upgraded to level 3 or 4 depending on the building. Buildings that generate resources tend to have a max level of three while the others typically max out at level 4. Leveling up buildings will allow for additional citizens to be assigned to that building and will also unlock additional research topics. Research topics take a set amount of time to research and unlock new things to help out Evan on his journey. A couple of examples are increased exp for non-active party members or the ability to make high-level gear and weapons. Some research topics will require citizens with specific skills before research can begin. Citizens can be found through the game and have specific skills that make them more efficient in certain buildings over others. Some can be recruited through side quests while others are unlocked through the in-game shop, Swift Solutions. As you start to recruit new citizens, check out the map of your kingdom regularly as citizens will have quests from time to time that reward in kingsguilders, weapons, and materials. Your kingdom will generate resources and allow you to build some of the best equipment in the game, so it’s important to keep up with it.

OPINION

I really enjoyed the 130+ hours I spent playing Ni No Kuni II for the most part. The story was just ok. It followed the “main hero must save the world” theme and had a lot of repetitive fetch side quests. The other thing I was a little annoyed about was some of the trophies were a little grindy, but that’s to be expected in an RPG. What really did it for me in this game was the combat and how smooth and seamless it was. That coupled with a Studio Ghibli like world to explore and the very well done kingdom building feature more than made up for the few cons I mentioned.

RECOMMENDATION

I would definitely recommend this game to anyone who is an RPG lover or to someone who is looking for a great game to play with the family.

Assassin’s Creed Origins: The Curse of the Pharaohs Review – The Mummies Return

by Chappie in

SUMMARY

Taking place four years after the events of the main game, The Curse of the Pharaohs DLC kicks off with Bayek receiving an urgent letter from Amunet. It mentions rumors about the possibility of another relic thus sending Bayek to the city of Thebes. He arrives to witness the city under attack by an ancient pharaoh. Bayek quickly learns that a curse is plaguing the city, causing deceased pharaohs to run rampant in the streets. The Pharaohs are attacking the citizens of Thebes as punishment for thieves ransacking and desecrating their tomb. It falls to Bayek to stop the curse and find the relic before the evil forces at work can have their way.

CONTENT

The Thebes region is home to 6 new areas to explore including the city of Thebes. As with the last expansion and main game, there are lots of places to discover like enemy outposts and hidden treasure. You can also hunt animals for extra exp and synchronize with even more viewpoints to display additional areas. This DLC also comes with a level booster that creates a copy our your save data and boosts Bayek’s level up to 45. This will allow you to play the DLC, even if you are just starting the game as the recommended level for the Curse of the Pharaohs is 44 to 45. Aside from the level increase, new abilities have been added to give Bayek an edge in combat. There are many new foes to fight such as giant scorpions, humanoid jackals like from the Mummy movies, actual mummies, and some of the pharaohs who helped shape Egypt. There are also new Phylakes to fight in the form of Jackals that can give even experienced players some trouble. Then when you get done exploring, you can turn your attention to the exceptional story and side quests focusing on ancient Egypt mythology.

OPINION

The Curse of the Pharaohs DLC really improved upon Assassin Creed Origins with its amazing combat and the mythological based story. Fighting the jackals and giant scorpions never got old and the boss battles were each unique and fun to do. It was really easy for me to lose track of time just by exploring the map and once I got hooked on the story, it was hard to stop.

RECOMMENDATION

This latest DLC is definitely worth the $20 asking price. Completing the story, exploring all of the areas, and obtaining all of the trophies took me between 15 and 18 hours to complete.

Assassin’s Creed Origins: The Hidden Ones Review – Long Live the Creed

by Chappie in

SUMMARY

The Hidden Ones takes place four years after the main story of Assassin’s Creed Origins. The people of Sinai have begun revolting against the Romans. In one massacre, two agents of the Hidden Ones were killed protecting civilians caught up in the battle. Tahira, the leader of the Hidden Ones, blames herself for their deaths and is struggling to keep her Hidden Ones together in addition to forming an alliance with the leader of the local rebels. Tahira is in desperate need of Bayek’s council.

CONTENT

Sinai is a new location to explore filled with many mountains and of course lots of sand. It is broken up into four regions filled with treasure to find, animals to hunt, outpost to liberate and viewpoints to jump off of just like the main game. You can easily spend close to 5 hours alone just clearing out every location on the map. There are also a number of side quests spread around Sinai that offer Bayek the chance to help the locals and even recruit more members into the Hidden Ones. The level cap is increased to 45 and everything from the main game carries over into the new DLC. I’d like to mention that the first quest for the Hidden Ones recommends a level of 38 since most of the enemies will be levels 40 to 45. You can also find 2 more phylakes in the form of the Shadows of the Scarab who are both level 45. The Hidden Ones DLC also includes a new outfit, four new legendary weapons, new mounts and a couple new weapons to use that will be unlocked as you progress through the story. Speaking of story, there are only 8 main story quests in the DLC that took around 2 hours to complete. This brings the total time I spent on the Hidden Ones overall to around 7 hours.

OPINION

I really enjoyed my time with the Hidden One DLC. Combat was as fluid as it was in the main game, and I found myself going off the beaten path quite often to explore new places that I came across. It was really cool to see the origins of the assassin order and how some of their creed was created through the events in this new story. The only thing that really bothered me about the first expansion was the bugs. A couple of them prevented me from moving forward but was easily fixed by reloading the game. The major ones prevent trophies from popping up after the conditions for the trophy were met. After some research, the only way to get those trophies unlocked would be to create a new game, play through the DLC again, and hope the trophies would unlock the next time.

RECOMMENDATION

When everything is said and done, this DLC is a good excuse to get back into Assassin’s Creed Origins and I felt it was well worth the $10 asking price especially if you really like the main game.

Hellblade Senua’s Sacrifice Review – Decent into Hell

by Chappie in

SUMMARY

Hellblade Senua’s Sacrifice is a third person story driven hack-n-slash esque game that follows Senua, a Celtic warrior, on her quest into Helheim to save the soul of her lover from Hela. She will have to traverse the dark underworld conquering its many trials if she hopes to defeat its ruler and save her beloved.

WORLD

The whole game takes place in Helheim, the underworld of Norse mythology. To progress deeper into the Helheim, Senua will have to face and overcome a number of challenges to reach her destination. Using the fire trial early on in the game, Senua will start a fire and have to flee the area before being burned alive. As she progresses further into the fire trail, Senua has to find different ways to escape as the fire covers the path she previously used. Along the way, she is plagued by voices in her head that doubt and discourage her. The game recommends the use of headphones through Senua’s story to add to the experience. The voices almost sound real when immersed into the game this way. The game also starts off with a warning for the player, saying that as Senua dies, the darkness will spread throughout her body. If it reaches her head, then its game over.

There are some collectibles in the form of lorestones spread throughout the world. They add more background to the game, and if you find them all, an extra cutscene near the end of the game unlocks as well as a trophy/achievement.

COMBAT

Combat in the game is done in a hack-n-slash fashion. Senua’s attacks consist of a light and heavy attack along with blocking, parrying, and dogging. Outside of the bosses, enemies tend to be spirits that appear out of nowhere in great numbers trying to overwhelm Senua. They also come in variety via standard soldiers wielding a sword or bigger enemies with an ax sometimes carrying a shield. They also like to surround Senua forcing the player to always pay attention to their surroundings, because you never know when an enemy will appear behind you.

OPINION

It took me a little over 5 ½ hours to beat Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice and get the platinum trophy. I really enjoyed the story and the gameplay play. The combat was seamless, and I had no problem staying invested in the game for the whole playthrough.

RECOMMENDATION

If you like story based games or are even a fan of mythology, then this game is a must. I did think that the $30 price tag was a little much for 5 ½ hour game so try and wait for a game sale if possible. I got my copy from a PSN sale for around $18 and felt that it was money well spent.

Kingdom Come Deliverance Review – The Life of a Peasant

by Chappie in

SUMMARY

Kingdom Come Deliverance is an open-world action RPG that takes place in the country of Bohemia during the year 1403.  You play as Henry, the son of a blacksmith. What starts out as any other day ends up turning Henry’s whole life upside down. This event, that happens early in the game, causes Henry to set out on a quest of vengeance to track down those who wronged him. During his quest, Henry will meet new and exciting people and partake in new experiences that will not only help him grow as a person but find his place in the world.

WORLD

The world of Kingdom Come Deliverance looks quite gorgeous for not being a triple-A title. Each building throughout the various towns has a form of detail reminiscent of the buildings from the time period they are modeled after.  The towns also contain various merchants that you would expect to see from back then such as a scribe and miller. Even the character models were made with the time period in mind. They live, work, dress, behave, and act similarly like the peasants, lords, and bandits of the olden days. The world also contains plants to harvest, animals to hunt, and some beautiful scenic areas.  However, as you play the game, you will sometimes notice that buildings and objects do not load into the game correctly causing them to look distorted. It might even make you fall through the ground, trapping you, with reloading as your only escape option.

Kingdom Come Deliverance Review

CONTENT

There is plenty to do in Kingdom Come Deliverance that will keep you busy for quite a while. There are many quests and activities to complete, gear to collect, locations to explore, and dice to win. The quests and activities are spread throughout the whole map and consist of objectives, such as finding someone or something, gathering information, hunting, stealing items, fighting, or killing bandits and Cumans. Each side quest also has its own unique story to follow, some of which can be really entertaining or really buggy. There were a couple of quests where bugs prevented me from completing them. The activities are more repetitive like hunting game or fist fighting for money. Gear is also plentiful in the game with both light and heavy armor that can impact the current task you are tackling. Light gear is less protective but doesn’t make as much noise which is perfect for stealthy situations. Heavy armor is more useful in battle and is able to absorb more hits from enemies causing Henry to take less damage. There are also many different weapons ranging from short swords, sabers, and longswords to axes, polearms, and spears to even maces, daggers, and bows. Each weapon also requires Henry to have certain stats like a specific amount of strength and agility to effectively wield it. Blade weapons like swords need to be sharpened and repaired to keep up the damage they do and prevent breakage. While working on quests and looking for the best gear, there are tons of hidden things just waiting to be explored such as graves, interesting locations, bird nests, accidents and bandit camps to name a few. Graves are locations where Henry can dig using a spade to find loot in the form of groschen, gear, or even books. Interesting locations can also have hidden loot or some unusual scene to gawk over. There are also nests located in high locations that require you to shoot them down with an arrow and can contain groschen, jewelry, or even gear for your horse. Accidents are often broken down carriages with loot nearby that can typically be found in a hidden in chest or barrel nearby.  If the accident occurred on a slope, chances are the treasure container rolled down the hill. You can also come across bandit camps that can house a couple to a crap ton of bandits. These areas are good for collecting loot off the bandits to sell in towns to make a profit. When you’re ready to take a break from quests, looting, exploring, and fighting, you can take Henry to the local inn to try your luck at a game of dice, which is similar to Yahtzee.

Kingdom Come Deliverance Review

HENRY

Now that we have gone over the world and content in Kingdom Come Deliverance, let’s talk about our favorite son of a blacksmith, Henry. When you get control of Henry, he is essentially a blank slate. This means that his skills are all level one, his gear is his peasant attire, and he doesn’t even know how to read. This puts you in a position to shape Henry to fit your play style. You can elect to focus on his speech over combat, make him the very definition of a knight, or even a stealthy rogue who takes what he pleases. A couple of skills to really pay attention to are speech, strength, reading, and alchemy. The higher Henry’s speech skill the more likely he can talk his way out of an unfavorable situation. A good example would be when you’re carrying stolen goods and get randomly searched by a city guard. With a high enough speech, you can convince the guard to let you go with your stolen goods. The strength skill not only allows Henry to wield better weapons but also determines how much weight he can carry. This is important because being able to carry more gear means you can explore more areas and carry more loot. There is also the mule skill in the strength tree that increases the amount of weight Henry can carry. The reading skill is really helpful for doing things like Alchemy where Henry has to read the recipe to make the potion or for reading skill books that help boost his skill level. Alchemy is an important skill because it allows Henry to make Savior Schnapps, a potion that allows you to save anywhere. This is huge because the only other ways to save the game are by sleeping in a bed or when the autosave triggers from a quest.  Another important aspect to keep in mind is that Henry has to eat, sleep, and take a bath pretty regularly. If Henry gets too hungry, his max health and stamina bar with start to decrease, ultimately making him weaker in battle. Fortunately, the game provides plentiful food pots in town and at camps spread throughout the world to help. When Henry goes a couple days without sleep, he starts to get really tired, causing him to fall off his horse while riding or straight to the ground if walking. He can even be so exhausted he just passes out where he lands. Bathing is equally important because, over time, Henry will start to smell which enemies can detect when trying to sneak up on them. It also messes up his charisma when interacting with people, affects his ability to convince others with words, and causes them to comment on his appearance.

Kingdom Come Deliverance Review

COMBAT

Fighting in Kingdom Come Deliverance comes in many forms such as using fists, melee weapons, and bows. Fistfights usually involve Henry and one other person going at it until one or the other has been knocked out. Melee combat is a bit more involved with a five-point star that has a circle in the middle of it which displays on enemy combatants. One of those six sections will be red to indicate that it is selected and each section represents a different part of the body to target. The top point of the star is an attack aimed at the enemy’s head while the top right is the right half of the torso, top left is the left half of the torso, bottom right is the right leg, bottom left is the left leg and the center circle is the stomach area. You can unlock weapon combos that help Henry break through enemy defenses such as a shield wielding enemy by using consecutive attacks and changing to different sections with each strike. Weapon type can also have an effect on combat with each weapon having their own unique combos to master. Blunt weapons such as a mace tend to be more effective against plate armor where swords do more damage to those wearing lighter armor. Melee combat can get quite difficult early on in the game when fighting more than one enemy, and the auto lock-on can be a little bit frustrating when 3 or more enemies are present.  Bows are another type of weapon in the game and can be used to hunt game or attack enemies a distance. I find it easier to manage multiple enemies with a bow than with a melee weapon as you can buy different types of arrows to match the situation. I would like to mention that as of now, the bow can be a little hard to use. There are no crosshairs to aim an arrow with and it seems to not be very accurate. The best way I found to hit a target was to aim down and a little to the right of the target while I was getting a feel for the bow.

Kingdom Come Deliverance Review

OPINION

I really enjoyed my time playing Kingdom Come Deliverance for the most part. Henry made a really cool main character to play and it was refreshing to control someone who was just an ordinary guy. The story was alright and kept me interested, but it was easy to put off doing story quests in favor of exploring the land and looking for side quests. The side quests are what really held my interest. They were mostly well done and enjoyable to complete with some really good content. However, there were at least seven quests that I could not complete because of bugs. I ended up losing hours of progress and had to keep reloading previous saves to try and progress to no avail. I also did do a no-kill playthrough and felt it took away from the game a bit. During some of the bigger required battles in the game, I had to sit off to the side while my allies did all the work. This caused the battle to take twice as long and wasn’t really fun. There was also the occasional instance where some of the buildings didn’t load all the way after a cutscene. It took a little bit of time to find my way out after all of the doors disappeared. Things, like traversing the world or working on quests, seemed to move really slowly, leading me to feel like I wasn’t making very much progress. I think this can be attributed to how spread out things are on the map. Different objectives on a quest could have you travel to distant locations just to talk to someone and then send you right back to where you were.

RECOMMENDATION

When everything is said and done, I would recommend giving this game a shot after a few more patches are released and the price comes down a bit. The main thing that really ruined the game for me was having to fight with game breaking bugs. I spent at least four hours trying to complete one quest and was unable to do so. This was a similar issue for the other quests that were also bugged. Once most of the issues are fixed, I would have no problem coming back to nab the platinum trophy.
