Live A Live – Twilight of Edo Japan: The Infiltrator Walkthrough

by Chappie in

Below is a walkthrough for the Twilight of Edo Japan: The Infiltrator chapter in Live A Live. There are a couple of different ways to go about this chapter. For our playthrough, we chose to cut down all the enemies in our path.

Ode Castle

When you gain control after the cutscene, follow the path up to the castle. Approach the guards to gain their attention then activate Shadowed Self ability. Wait until you have an opening then run past them. You’ll need to do the same thing to the 2 guards guarding the door to reach the Guardhouse.

Guardhouse

Once inside, head forward a short ways to the door to trigger a cutscene. When it ends, head through the doorway to reach the hallway. Take a right and enter through the door to reach a small room. Inside loot the chest to receive Chain Mail. Head back to the hallway. Here you’ll have a couple of options. If you head through the fancy doors in the center, you’ll be able to fight the retainer if you wish. It might be a bit difficult depending on your level. To continue deeper into the guardhouse, head through the doors on the left side where you’ll run into a ronin. Either defeat or sneak past him. If you head to the door south of the ronin, this will lead you to a room with a soldier and a maid. You can fight both of them! Otherwise, head through the door north of the ronin to reach the next area.

Ode Castle

Head up the stairs on the left and keep following the path west. You’ll go over a bridge and arrive at a building with 2 guards out front. To the left of the guards, there will be a bush along the building illuminated with light. To the right of it, there is a merchant hidden behind a section of the building. You have the option to fight this merchant. If you defeat him, he’ll drop the Devil’s Abacus wrist equipment. Speak with the guards along the building. They will ask for the password. This will be river or origin depending on the bell cycle. Answer it incorrectly if you want to fight them then head inside.

Residential Palace

Once inside, head through the doorway where you’ll find a ronin patrolling the hallway. From here, you have a couple of options of how to make it through this area! Ultimately, you’ll need to make it to the attic to progress with the story.

First, head through the door to the right of the 2 fancy doors. There will be a merchant you can fight. In this room there is a hidden doorway on the northwest side of the room. Ignore this hidden room for now if you wish to keep exploring as it is 1 of 2 hidden doors that lead to the attic (the way forward). Exit this room then head west. Go through the fancy doors to the right of the light to find a retainer. Next, exit this room and head through the fancy door to the left of the light to reach an area containing 6 enemies. Head north through the rooms to reach a hallway. Head west through this hall to reach another hallway. This hallway is also accessible via the door to the left of the 2 fancy doors, too. At the end of this hallway on the west side, you’ll come to a ronin guarding a fancy door with another fancy door to the right of it. If you enter the fancy door without the ronin guarding it, there will be a minister inside. Speaking with him will cause you to be ambushed by 2 shinobi. After you defeat the 2 shinobi, interact with the minister to fight him as well. There is a secret room on the northeastern side of this room, however, ignore it for now if you wish to continue exploring. This hidden door is one of 2 that will lead to the attic (way forward). Exit this room and speak with the ronin guarding the fancy door. Defeat him then head inside to find 2 people. After taking care of the woman, approach the man to trigger a cutscene. Speak with him again to fight him. Return to the hallway then head east. Head north through the two doorways then head to the east end of this hallway. Head through the doorway to the south of the window to find chests with Castella Cake x2. Backtrack down the hall to the northern door. If you exit here, you can find more enemies to fight. Ignore this door for now as you’ll come here later for the “Storehouse” section below!

When you’re ready to progress, head to one of the two hidden entrances mentioned above to reach the attic.

Attic

Enter the hidden room and climb up the ladder to reach the attic where a cutscene will trigger. Afterwards, loot the chests to receive the below items:

  • Castella Cake
  • Suijin Tabi
  • Koban

There are also 4 peepholes you can look into for some interesting scenes. When you’re ready to leave, follow the central path north then head west, climbing through a window on the northwestern side of the attic to head outside.

Outside Rooftops

Once outside, follow the fence south to arrive on the roof of a building. Ascend the ladder then head through either side of the roof to climb in through the window. This will bring you to an attic . This is a great spot to save. Inside, you’ll have to fight 5 ninjas of the Go-Nin-Ja force. Defeat them then loot the chests to receive the following:

  • Koban
  • Genji Glove

Exit the attic then head back down the stairs. Follow the roof of the fence to the east. You’ll come to a room where you’ll see a rat trigger a trap in the floor causing it to fall to the area below. If you fall down this hole, it will take you back to the starting area of the castle. Head to the other side of this room, avoiding the trap, then keep following along the wall. Eventually, you’ll go up a wooden ladder then continue heading along the wall. When you get to the end, you should be in the attic of the Storehouse. Inside the Storehouse attic, you’ll find some chests. Open them to receive the following items:

  • Storehouse Key
  • Castella Cake

Return to the entrance of the Residential Palace. Once there, follow the path west going down 2 flights of stairs, bringing you to the Storehouse.

Shinobi Storehouse

Before entering the Shinobi Storehouse, make a save as you’ll have a hydra-like fight. Once inside the Shinobi Storehouse, interact with the chest to trigger a fight with a shinobi. Defeat the enemy and 2 more will take his place. Defeat them as well. 4 more will take their place. Once again, defeat them then open the chest to receive a Dungeon Key.

Storehouse

After exiting the Shinobi Storehouse, make your way back to the Residential Palace then head inside. When you reach the hallway with the two fancy doors, head through the left one and follow it all the way to the other side. Enter through the door on the northern wall to reach outside. Head up the stairs in front of you then take a right. Follow the path over the wooden bridge to reach the Storehouse. Use the key then head inside and fight the enemies. Afterwards, loot the chests to receive the below items:

  • Shrimp Rice Ball x2
  • Ode Shuriken
  • Genji Tabi (shoes)
  • Izanagi Scroll
  • Koban
  • Topknot (helm)

Path of Shuttered Lanterns / Water

Head to the northeast side of the area via the rooftop to find some wooden scaffolding along the rooftops. Take it then climb down the tree. Examine the stone statue to push it aside revealing a secret path. Jump into the hole to reach the Path of Shuttered Lanterns. Follow the path down the hallways to emerge outside. Head into the water and defeat the enemies as you explore the area. To get out of the water, head up the stairs to the left of the waterfall then climb up the tree. Head up the stairs and follow the lake north. If you run into a shadow, you’ll trigger a fight with a giant coy fish named Lord Iwama. It has 2032 HP so avoid it for now! Keep heading north then enter through the door.

Castle Dungeon – 2nd Floor

Take the steps up and head through the door at the top. Speak with the retainer in there if you wish to fight. Use the Dungeon Key on the left cell. This will cause you to fall through a trap door.

Castle Dungeon – Charnel Pit

The pit you land in will be filled with Lost Souls. You must fight all of them then quickly head up the stairs before they respawn. An event will trigger on the stairs. You’ll have to say “I’ll cut you down all the same.” twice in order to begin a fight against Amakusa Shiro. Defeat him to trigger another event where a prisoner will soon fall into the pit. When it concludes, head up the stairs.

Castle Dungeon – 2nd Floor

Open the middle cell to find Goemon. You can either kill him or spare him. We chose to spare him. Head back through the secret door on the right side then make your way back to the water.

Ode Castle

Follow the pond south and use the waterfall to descend. Head to the door on the right to reach the Path of Shuttered Lanterns. Keep heading north and eventually you’ll be back outside. Ascend the tree then follow the rooftops northwest, entering the Storehouse – Attic. From there you can enter the Castle Keep – First Floor Attic

Castle Keep – First Floor Attic

Head left until you reach the first lever. Interact with it. This will reverse the flow of some of the gears. Climb on one of the gears heading north to reach a chest containing a Hook and Rope Set. Examine the nearby peg and use the Hook and Rope Set to create a bridge. Cross the bridge then interact with the lever on the left. Head back to the right, passing the peg, and take the gear north. Head up to the second conveyor on the right and jump on it. Flip the lever there. Head north and take the 2 gears. Head right and take the 3 sets of gears heading south. Again, head south taking the right most pair of gears to reach the entrance of the attic. From the entrance, follow the path west, passing the first lever you flipped. When you get to the wall with the window, go north. Ride the third conveyor belt to the right then take the pair of gears south. This will bring you to another lever you can flip. Do so then ride the nearby gear south. Head left then go all they way north. Take the single  forward. Head forward 2 more gears to reach a chest. You’ll receive a Hook and Rope Set. Flip the nearby lever then take the right set of gears down and head right. Go north and take the left gear north brining you to a rope ladder leading down. Use the path left of the ladder to reach a conveyor belt and ride it right. This will bring you to a chest with a Fujin scroll. You’ll now need to follow the path back around the room to reach the rope ladder and take it down.

Castle Keep – First Floor

Follow the path left to reach the second floor.

Castle Keep – Second Floor

Use the green rope ladder to reach the attic.

Castle Keep – Second Floor Attic

In this attic, some of the floors have trapdoors. When navigating around, make sure you are not on one when they activate. In the bottom left corner, there is a chest containing a Shinobi Wristguard. On the southeastern side, there is a chest containing a Fuma Shuriken. On the northeastern side, the chest contains an Enma Charm. When you’re done exploring, head to the southeastern corner of the room and take the rope ladder down. At the bottom of the ladder, take the nearby stairs up to the third floor then climb the rope ladder there.

Castle Keep – Third Floor Attic

This attic is filled with enemies that will throw you if you run into them. Do your best to avoid them! A chest containing a Hook and Rope Set in the northeastern corner. Use this item in the center of the room to make a short cut. In the southwestern corner, there is a Genji Helm in the chest. Exit this area in the northwestern corner. Take the stairs up then climb the rope ladder again.

Castle Keep – Fourth Floor Attic

Head to the rope ladder on the eastern side and take it down.

Castle Keep – Fourth Floor

On this floor you’ll reach a door with a voice behind it asking you to tea. If you sit, you’ll be teleported to the dungeon. Keep refusing to sit and eventually you’ll fight the Puppetmaster Gennai and his goons. Defeat them all to receive a Mainspring. Head through the secret door behind Puppetmaster Gennai then head through the door. Take the stairs down to reach the third floor.

Castle Keep – Third Floor

Head through the doorway to trigger an event that leads to a fight with 4 ninjas and Yodogimi. Defeat them! Afterwards, head south then follow the path right and up some stairs.

Castle Keep – Fourth Floor

There will be a retainer to either fight or use the password. Head through the doorway and follow the path. Take the stairs down to reach the third floor.

Castle Keep – Third Floor

The room on the right has 2 chests containing Enma Charm and Fujin Scroll. In the room to the left of the stairs, you can fight an old man. To the left of this room, a maid is standing outside of the room. If the maid sees you on this floor, she will call the guards and a fight will trigger. You’ll have to defeat Hannya Maru. We were able to walk past her the first time, but she saw us after we came back in from the far left door. In the room guarded by the maid, you can speak with the Young Monk to fight him and his tiger. Defeat them both! Exit this room and head through the door on the left. Head up and enter the door. Next, head through the white doors on the right to find a chest containing a Hook and Rope Set. From there, start heading back down through the castle, fighting the people as you come across them.

Castle Keep – Second Floor

On this floor you’ll find 3 chests in a room. They contain Fuma Shuriken x2 and Kiku-ichimonji. Head to the far west side of this area and head through the door. Keep heading north through the multiple sets of white doors. Eventually, you’ll reach a room with a woman. It has the following items: Kanesada, Ode Shuriken, Koban and Shrimp Rice Ball.

Castle Keep – First Floor

There are 2 chests in a room containing Wad of Shinobi Birdlime and Koban. A lady guards a chest containing an Izanagi Scroll. She’ll run in circles around the chest so you can’t catch her. A man on the left side sits next to a chest containing a Kotetsu.

Castle Keep – Fourth Floor

Now that you have 4 Koban and the Mainspring, make your way back to the hidden room behind where you fought the Puppetmaster Gennai on the 4th floor. Once you’re in the secret room, insert 3 Koban into the wall on the right. Head through the door then put the Mainspring into the Mimic Mammet. A battle with it will ensue. Defeat it and it will join your party. Please note that while it’s in your party, you cannot fall down trapdoors otherwise it will break! Unfortunately, the robot is also only level 2. In order for it to be an effective party member, you must first level it up. To exit the room, put 1 Koban into the wall on the right.

Path of Shuttered Lanterns

Head through the first area. In the second area, head forwards slowly. When you hear the first click, quickly turn around and run back the way you came. The first area will now be a dark room with a sword on the wall. Interact with the sword to begin a fight with Majin Ryunosuke. It’s a difficult boss to beat but if you do, you can claim his sword!

Castle Keep – Fifth Floor

Head into the room and defeat the Eight Blades Samurai. Afterwards, speak with Ode Lou. He’ll summon a spirit. Interact with the spirit named Miyamoto Musashi and defeat it. Head through the hidden doorway via the scroll on the back right side of the room and follow Ode Lou upstairs.

Castle Keep – Sixth Floor

Once at the top, enter the room to encounter Ode Lou. Defeat him! Afterwards, exit the room and head across the hall to reach the roof. When you’re outside, a cutscene will trigger followed by a fight with Gamahebi. Again, defeat it to trigger an event. When it concludes, so will the chapter!

Live A Live – Imperial China: The Successor Walkthrough

by Chappie in

Below is a walkthrough for the Imperial China: The Successor chapter in Live A Live.

Shifu’s Cottage

When you gain control of Shifu, interact with the two drawers on the northwestern side of the room to receive a pair of Weathered Boots and Qilin Boots. Head through the doorway in the northeastern corner of the room behind the purple cloth. Once in this room, interact with the 4 purple jars and 2 drawers to receive the below items.

  • Pork Bun x2
  • Red Bean Bun
  • Weathered Garments x2

Return to the previous room and exit the house.

Mount Aspiration

To the left of the cottage there will be two plants to collect. Do so to receive White Clover. Head west until you reach the cliffside. Take the stairs down descending from the mountain. Along the way you can find a tuft of Birdeye Speedwell in a rock nook on the west side. When you reach the second area of Mount Aspiration, head down two sets of steps coming to a road sign. Make your way east to the Yunfa Market.

Yunfa Market

Go north, passing through the market, until a cutscene triggers. Afterwards, speak with the crowd. When prompted select “Very well, I’ll see to the lad.” This will lead to a fight against Hong Hakka. Defeat him in battle. When the fight is over, you’ll recruit Hong Hakka as one of your disciples. Speak with the below villagers to receive the following items:

  • Porcelain Bowl – Old Man across from Hoi Restaurateur to receive the Porcelain Bowl.
  • Pork Bun – Elderly Woman under overhang south of Hoi Restaurateur
  • Red Bean Bun – Old Man behind cart near entrance to market

When you’re done exploring, exit the town.

Mount Aspiration

Once in Mount Aspiration, head west. You’ll pass a waterfall just before reaching the Bamboo Forest.

Bamboo Forest

As you make your way west through the forest, interact with the shiny plants to receive the following items:

  • Nature’s Providence
  • White Clover
  • Birdeye Speedwell
  • Shepherd’s Purse

Along the way, you’ll have to fight tigers. When you reach a certain point in the Bamboo Forest, you’ll be jumped by a Cocky Bandit. When prompted, choose “I’m afraid I have nothing for you.” This will lead to a fight with Lei Kugo. Defeat her to recruit her as a disciple. Afterwards, continue exploring the Bamboo Forest to make sure you have 5 Nature’s Providence before you leave. When you’re ready, exit the forest to return to Mount Aspiration.

Mount Aspiration

Head a short ways east to reach the waterfall then head down the stairs to reach Wong Village.

Wong Village

Once in the village you can give Nature’s Providence to 5 elderly villagers who have come down with a sickness to. They will in turn give you the following items:

  • Red Bean Bun – Old Man
  • Iron Wok – Elderly Woman
  • Pork Bun – Old Man
  • Catfish Whisker – Elderly Woman

The Elderly Woman in the southwestern corner of town will be hungry. You can give her a Pork Bun but she will not give you anything.  When you give an Elderly Woman in the center of the village a Nature’s Providence, a small dialog event will trigger.

Head south through the village, following the boy, to reach a gate guarded by a ruffian. Speak to the ruffian to trigger a dialog event. After the event, speak with the ruffian again and select “Pardon me.” This will cause Shifu to come to the boy’s aid leading to a fight against 3 enemies. Following the battle, you’ll be prompted with some dialog options. Select the “I must decline” option then “Well, if you insist…” to receive Yun Jou as a disciple. Leave town.

Mount Aspiration

With your 3 disciples now found, head north and return to Shifu’s Cottage. It might be a good idea to save here before heading inside.

Shifu’s Cottage

A cutscene will trigger after entering the cottage. When it concludes, you’ll have to fight all 3 of the disciples individually. If you loose, it’ll be a game over. After defeating your disciples, a cutscene will trigger.

Mount Aspiration – Summit

When you gain control of Shifu, you’ll be tasked with training your disciples. The disciple that Shifu favors is the one who will go forward as the main character. Hong Hakka is the tank of the group with the highest HP. Yun Jou has the potential to do the most damage but has low HP making him a glass cannon. Lei Kugo is a ranged attacker with the highest speed. The disciple you choose should be the one you focus on during the 4 bouts. After the bouts, an event triggers.

Bamboo Forest

When in the Bamboo Forest, you’ll have to do another round of bouts. Again, only use the disciple you have chosen. After the 4th bout, an event triggers.

Shifu’s Cottage

When here, you’ll have yet another round of 4 bouts. Once again, only use the disciple you have chosen. After the 4th bout, another event triggers. When it concludes head to the Yunfa Market southeast of Mount Aspiration.

Yunfa Market

Follow the road north until you reach a group of people. Speak with Sun Tzu Wang in the middle to trigger a fight with him and his goons. After you defeat the bunch, speak with everyone in the village as most of them will give you an item. With your task complete, return to Shifu’s Cottage.

Mount Aspiration

On your way back to the cottage, you’ll find your chosen disciple on the ground. Speak with them then head inside.

Shifu’s Cottage

Interact with your other two disciples inside the cottage. Afterwards, an event will trigger. When you regain control of Shifu, exit the cottage.

Mount Aspiration

If you want, head up to the graves of your students and interact with their tombstones. When you’re ready to progress, head to the Bamboo Forest.

Bamboo Forest

Make your way through the forest heading towards the enemy stronghold. Towards the end of the path, your disciple will show up and demand to join you. Agree then press on.

Indomitable Fist Fortress

Approach the front doors and speak with the gatekeepers to start a fight with them. After defeating them, head inside and defeat the group of enemies. Keep working your way through the courtyard and head up the stairs. The enemies will release some tigers to fight you. Defeat them then continue up the stairs and head through the doors at the top. In this next room, there will be some pots you can loot for Weathered Boots, Fuxi Feather and Red Bean Bun. Head through the northern door and keep following the path. Eventually, you’ll reach a library with a lootable pot containing a Peach Bun and a chest with Qilin Boots. Continue heading north, defeating the enemies along the way. You can also find the following items: Soup Dumpling and Peach Bun x2. Eventually, you’ll reach a long room with a large table surrounded by enemies. You’ll have to fight 5 Chun Chan Pai (more difficult enemies). In that same room, there are pots with Bottle Gourd and Pork Bun. Carry on through the fortress to reach Ou Di Wan Lee. Before he’ll accept your challenge, you must first defeat all 12 of his disciples. The battles themselves aren’t very tough although you might have to use a healing item or two towards the end. Let the fight begin! After you defeat them, an event will trigger then you’ll face Ou Di Wan Lee alone as the disciple. Upon the cutscene following his defeat, the chapter will conclude!
