Hunter for Hire

You’ll automatically obtain the Hunter for Hire main quest after completing Wayward Souls!

Hunter for Hire Objectives

Read the “Plan: Crane Treasure Hunting Sign” schematics from your inventory

At the start of the Hunter for Hire quest, open your PIP Boy and under Item look for the Notes tab to find the Plan: Crane Treasure Hunting Sign. Read it.

(Optional) Speak to Mort about building at your C.A.M.P.

Speak with Mort who is sitting at the bar next to Duchess in the Wayward.

(Optional) Build a Weapons Workbench at your C.A.M.P. to scrap items

Place your camp then build a Weapons Workbench, which is under the Crafting tab.

Build the “Crane Treasure Hunting Inc. sign at your C.A.M.P.

This sign can be found under the Quest tab in your C.A.M.P.

Load “Broadcast Tape” into a Radio Tower and activate the connection

The radio tower can be found west of the Wayward along 88B. Head inside the building and use the Emergency Management System Relay Terminal. Load the holotape by pressing square and select “Broadcast Tape”. Afterwards, select “Activate Transmitter Connection”.

Return to your C.A.M.P.

Head back to where you placed your C.A.M.P.

Wait to see who the sign draws in

Wait for the Treasure Hunter to show up then speak with him. Continue to wait until 2 Free Radicals show up. Speak with them. Unless your Charisma is high enough, it’ll probably end in a fight so be prepared.

Learn the location of the gangster’s hideout

If you have to fight them, make sure to loot their bodies to collect “Bring me Crane!”.

Report what you found to Duchess

Head to the Wayward and speak with Duchess inside.

(Optional) Question the family at Anchor Farm

Head to the Anchor Farm, which is slightly northwest of Vault 76 and speak with Daniel. If your S.P.E.C.I.A.L. stats aren’t high enough, you’ll be tasked with searching the farm for information on the gang.

(Optional) Search the farm for information on the gang

Unlock the safe in the floor underneath the stairs to find the “Agreement with Radicals”.

(Optional) Speak to the scrapper at Tyler County Fairgrounds

Once at the fairgrounds, look for the Jar Toss stand. Use the makeshift walkway to walk up onto the building next to the Jar Toss then over to the roof of the Jar Toss to find Liebowitz. Speak with him. If your Strength isn’t high enough, you’ll be tasked with finding an egg.

(Optional) Collect the egg for Liebowitz

The egg he wants is a Deathclaw egg, which can be found on Deathclaw Island (west of Tyler County Fairgrounds). The egg is located in a suitcase in the center of the island. Watch out for the Deathclaw as it can be a difficult enemy to fight! Once you collect the egg, return to Liebowitz to hand it over.

Kill the gang leader or convince the gang leader to leave the Wayward alone

Head to WV Lumber Co. along Route 81 near the river and push the button to enter the camp. Work your way to the objective in WV Lumber Co. Office. Once inside, head down to the basement and into the tunnel to find Roper at the end. Speak with him and choose to either kill him or look for his treasure.

Talk to Duchess

If you didn’t kill Roper and agree to look for his treasure, head back to the Wayward and speak with Duchess. The Hunter for Hire quest will end and you will begin the Strength in Numbers quest.
