Below is our walkthrough for Chapter 2 of The Gunk! Objects that you can scan for the encyclopedia are in the pinky purple font color! Remember that if you scan all the available items in The Gunk, you’ll earn the Space Archeologists achievement! Please also pick up all the materials that you find as you explore the area. You’ll need these materials to unlock upgrades for Pumpkin (your hand device). If you obtain all the upgrades, you’ll receive the All In achievement!

At the start of Chapter 2 in The Gunk, face the ship and head just behind it on the right side to find some yellow and purple mushrooms to scan. After it’s been scanned, the Royal Pan entry will unlock in the encyclopedia.

Return to the robot and scan the Mycelium Coil nearby as part of the story. Use RT to attempt to close the Mycelium Coil.

You’ll then be tasked with collecting 20 Metal. Across from the ship, scan the Red Cap, which is the cluster of red mushrooms.

While you’re also near the ship, scan Becks and Curt, the robot!

Head inside the ship and scan the Workbench and Hydrophonics Wall.

Exit the ship and head down the slope to find Lump Fruit against the rock in the water.

Scan it then hold RT to collect it to receive Organics. Next, head inside the cave and scan the blue crystals to obtain the Brine Anvil entry,

the cluster of silver metal to receive the Sperrylite Analogue entry

and the blue glowing plants for the Squid Lantern entry.

While at the Brine Anvil and Sperrylite Analogue, hold RT to collect them to receive Metal. As you make your way through the cave, you’ll come to an area outside. Hug the left side of this area to scan the Rhiza Twine near the cliff.

Select Y to use it thus making a shortcut! After you’ve collected all the metal, use the shortcut to return to the ship. Inside the ship, use the workbench and select the Glove Grip Soldering upgrade to install it. With your upgrade installed, return to that stubborn plant outside of the ship and hold RT then push the L analog stick downward to move your character back thus pulling out the plant. Head to the energy fissure just past the ship and place the plant on it to build a staircase.

Make your way across the mushrooms and slurp up the gunk at the end of the path. Before heading inside the newly opened path, return to the Mycelium Coil plant and grab another. You can easily reach it via the plant shaped like a tongue shortcut near the cluster of red mushrooms.

You won’t be able to jump with the plant so throw it onto the ledge. Bring the plant into the cave and place it on the energy fissure to create another staircase. Climb on up it then look for a small cave on the right side just before the gunk.

Head inside the tunnel and hug the right side to find a path leading to a new scannable plant. Scan it to find the Tape Trunk.

Before you leave this nook, make sure to collect all the materials here. The new plant will give you Fiber! Return to the gunk and remove it. Look for the cluster of yellow mushrooms before heading down the newly opened path to find a raised ledge you can jump to.

Do so then use the Rhiza Twine to climb down to the nook below. Scan the new plant called Angel Kernel and collect all the materials in this area.

You’ll get Fiber and Organic. Return to the newly opened path and follow it to reach more gunk. Clean it out but don’t proceed forward. Instead, look again for the cluster of yellow mushrooms that you can jump on to reach a raised ledge. Climb to that ledge then scan the yellow mushrooms to receive the entry for Lunar Stool.

Head back through the opening then proceed through the newly opened path to reach Fungal Jungle. Proceed forward until you spot the gunk. Scan the gunk hanging from the ceiling that is shooting out red calls to find the Gunk Dripper.

Slurp up all the gunk then a tongue-like plant will unfold. Scan it to discover Fowl’s Tongue then hop on it.

Scan the mushrooms on your right to discover Whale Jaw.

Continue forward a short way then scan the new plant with red leaves to discover the Wing Beet.

Press forward to the gunk and slurp it all up. This will cause 2 tongue plants to unfold and a mushroom will appear in the middle. Head across the tongues to reach the Mycelium Coil. Grab it then head back to the mushroom between the tongues and throw it at the blue circle in the cliffside.

This will cause a mushroom to pop out of it. Jump onto this mushroom to continue forward. Continue along the path until you spot a little cave off to the right. In this little nook, scan the Jeweled Apple surrounded by Squid Lanterns.

Continue following the path until a brief cutscene triggers. You’ll be attacked by creatures. Make sure to scan them to gain the Gunk Critter entry then defeat them by sucking them up and throwing them. If you throw one at another creature, you’ll earn the Two Birds With One Stone achievement.

Remove all the monsters and gunk in this area. Before heading across the water, follow the path near the energy fissure to find a new plant under the stone bridge/archway. Scan the plant to receive the Fungal Peppers entry.

Continue across the stones in the water and clear the gunk. Scan the Smoke Shard near the Mycelium Coil.

Grab the Mycelium Coil and proceed forward a short ways. Throw it over the stone archway then crawl under it. Retrieve the coil then place it on the energy fissure. Hop on the plant that sprouted to continue on your merry way. Instead of jumping to the yellow ledge, look on the left to find another unmarked ledge. Jump to it then drop down to find Hog Fungus. Scan it!

When you’ve finished exploring the path, return to the Mycelium Coil and grab another. Toss it across the water to place it on the energy fissure. Climb on up and explore the area. Collect all the materials you find! The way to go is marked with gunk that you’ll have to clear to proceed forward. When you’re ready to clean it up, do so then continue forward to find even more gunk. Again, slurp it up to cause 2 tongue plants to unravel. Take the steeper tongue to loot the materials then return to the other tongue and follow the path forward. Clear up all the gunk to reveal a Mycelium Coil on the ledge overlooking the creature. Grab a coil and throw it at the energy fissure in front of the creature to cause a mushroom to sprout.

This will cause the creature to run off again. Climb back up and grab another coil. This time throw it on the ledge marked with yellow across the way.

Climb up to this ledge to retrieve the coil then grab it. Make your way through the tunnel to find and scan the Tail Hive then continue on along the path.

Throw the coil across the way to the blue circle in the cliffside to cause a mushroom to sprout. Backtrack through both tunnels then continue forward. When you reach the mushrooms that you can jump on just past the tall rock, hug the mushrooms on the left side then climb up the plant to loot materials. The path will circle around allowing you to jump to where the creature was previously standing. Continue down the path it used to escape to trigger a cutscene. Afterwards, make your way down the path, defeat the creatures and clean up the gunk. Follow the path forward until you find the creature again. After the cutscene, you’ll be in a new location called Ruin Gateway! Continue along the path until you trigger a dialog event. Afterwards, you’ll need to scan the ancient alien tablet. To do this examine the tablet in front of you in the middle of the area. This will automatically give you the entry for the Inscribed Tablet.

Before leaving, scan the door in front of the tablet to get the Ruin Gateway.

Make your way along the path where you’ll eventually cross a bridge. Once you do so, scan the base of the alien statue to receive the Alien Monument entry.

Go to the back of the statue and climb under it to gather more materials. The path will circle around to the beacon that will beam you up to the ship. When you’re ready, place the beacon and use it to gain access to the ship at the Campsite. After the cutscene, Chapter 2 will conclude!
