by Welcome to NGB and our Shin Megami Tensei V (SMTV) walkthrough on Jouin High School. Here you’ll find everything you’ll need to easily breeze through this area. Please note that this guide has been updated to reflect the original SMTV content along with the new additions from SMTV Vengeance!
Medical Research Lab
At this point, you should be in the terminal room of the Medical Research Lab. Keep progressing through the story until you reach the Jozoji Temple.
SMTV Vengeance: Speak with the Bethel Researcher in the terminal room to receive the Essential Research subquest. Also, speak with the Male Student on the world map to acquire the In Pursuit of Knowledge subquest. Travel to the Tokyo Diet Building to pick up the Training: Minato subquest. Afterwards, speak with the Head Researcher in the Tokyo Diet Building and offer your assistance. This will unlock a bunch of new DLC subquests: A Goddess in Training, The Doctor’s Last Wish, The Rage of a Queen, Sakura Cinders of the East, and Holy Will and Profane Dissent. Speak with Miyazu in Jouin High School to accept the Prince of Her Dreams subquest.
SMTV Vengeance: Just before you reach the Jozoji Temple, a cutscene will trigger where you’ll encounter Level 22 Naamah and Level 21 Glasya-Labolas again. After the encounter, you’ll need to defeat them. Naamah is weak to Physical, resists Fire, Ice, Electric and Force and blocks Dark. She’ll charm your whole party and can debuff your attack. Glasya-Labolas is weak to Electric and blocks Force. He’ll do a Force attack that hits the whole party. They will also inflict you with a status where you’ll attack the other target than the one you’re trying to attack.
Afterwards, Beast Glasya-Labolas will be unlocked for fusion and you’ll need to continue to Jozoji Temple.
Jozoji Temple
At the temple, a cutscene triggers leading to a fight against 2 Level 20 Anzu and 2 Level 19 Lamia. The Anzu are weak to Force and resist Electric while the Lamia are weak to Ice and resist Electric. After taking them down, you’ll then have to face a Level 23 Lahmu. It’s weak to Force and Light while it resists Fire and blocks Dark. It also uses Dark skills. Once you defeat the demon another cutscene triggers.
Jouin High School
Stop by the medical center to heal and save then head for the school. After another cutscene, interact with the leyline to unlock it then head inside to trigger a cutscene.
SMTV Vengeance: As you approach the school, Yoko will join your party. After heading inside, progress down the hallway chasing Lahmu to reach a set of stairs leading up. At that point Tao will also join your party.
In this area, you’ll be fighting the below demons. Please reference this table for their weaknesses, resistances and blocked skills.

In the school, head east down the first floor hallway where you’ll be jumped by a Rakshasa and Incubus demons. Be wary of Rakshasa’s counter when attacking with Physical skills. After the battle, head west down the hall. Keep following the hall until you reach the Rakshasa and Andras demons.
Continue to the end of the hallway then take the stairs up to trigger a cutscene. After the cutscene, you’ll be on the second floor of the school. Head east down the hallway to reach Tsuchigumo accompanied by an Oni. Defeat the duo then keep heading down the hall, passing the stairs. You’ll encounter Jack Frost who’s being chased by Manananggal accompanied by an Incubus. After saving Jack Frost, it’ll heal your party.
Head south down the hallway where the demons came from then take the stairs down. Save the nearby girl from the Oni accompanied by a Rakshasa. Afterwards, return to Jack Frost on the second floor then head east down the hallway to the end. At the end of the hallway, take a left heading north and battle 2 Rakshasa and 1 Andras. Defeat them then head up the nearby set of stairs to the third floor. At the top of the stairs, turn right and approach the girl who will transform into some demons. Defeat the Incubus and Andras.
Next, head back down the stairs to reach the second floor then return to Jack Frost to heal up. Take the stairs next to him back up to the third floor. Follow the path on the left south, taking the stairs up to the fourth floor. Follow the hallway north to find a pair of demons. One of them is wounded and about to die. Hand over a Life Stone to cause them to leave in peace. Head back down to the third floor and head west down the hall to trigger a cutscene with Ichiro. Proceed further west to get jumped by Manananggal and Shiki-Ouji. Defeat them then continue heading down the hall. Take the stairs up to the fourth floor then head east down the hallway to trigger a cutscene at the end.
SMTV Vengeance: The cutscene will lead to a fight against Level 24 Lahmu and its 6 tentacles.
At the start of the battle, you’ll receive a new tutorial on the Mud status ailment, which will be applied to your party at the beginning of the fight. Characters infected by this ailment will lose one Press Turn Icon before their action each turn and will be less likely to perform that action. This status ailment cannot be cured by skills or items!
During the fight, the tentacles are weak to Light and Force, resists Fire and blocks Dark. Once you’ve taken out all the tentacles, you’ll fight the main body of Lahmu! It will have all the same weaknesses as before.
After the battle, you’ll be treated to a cutscene.
