The Gunk – Chapter 8 Walkthrough

The Gunk

 

Below is our walkthrough for Chapter 8 of The Gunk! Objects that you can scan for the encyclopedia are in the pinky purple font color! Remember that if you scan all the available items in The Gunk, you’ll earn the Space Archeologists achievement! Please also pick up all the materials that you find as you explore the area. You’ll need these materials to unlock upgrades for Pumpkin (your hand device). If you obtain all the upgrades, you’ll receive the All In achievement!

 

When you’re ready to get started with Chapter 8, head to the beacon and travel to The Old City. Zigzag your way back up the shaft then cross the long bridge. Stop when you see the railing on the left side of the bridge. Look to the right and in the distance you’ll spot a yellow trigger.

Shoot it to cause a platform to move. Suck up the gunk on the left side of the bridge near the rail to head down the path to the moving platform. Jump onto the platform and ride it to the other side. Clean up the gunk to proceed forward. Once you’re in The Garden, make your way through the area to reach a switch. Pull it then turn around. Just before the circular doorway, jump down to the ledges on the left and work your way to the next switch. Again, pull it then climb up the ledges to the last switch. After you pull this one, a cutscene will trigger. Eliminate the gunk that swarms you then climb back down to the second switch and climb through where the red barriers used to be. Follow the path, eliminating the gunk as you go, to reach the area where the Chair entry was. Jump onto the console in front of the chairs and climb through the window to reach the lift. Next, head through the doorway guarded by the Tail Hive and jump through the second window on the right side.

Clear out the gunk in the room then shoot the melon hanging from the ceiling to clear the rest of it. Retreat back to the hall and then climb through the neighboring window. Again, shoot the melon hanging from the ceiling and chuck it at the gunk on the wall. This will cause the tongue plants to unfold. Make your way to the Rhiza Twine then jump onto the moving platform. Ride it around to the tall mushrooms and dismount.

In the next room, clean up all the gunk. Grab the melon from the room and toss it to the gunk in the room across the hall. This will eliminate the gunk around the trigger. Shoot the trigger to cause a platform to move to the other side of the room.

You’ll need to shoot the melon hanging from the ceiling onto this moving platform so it gets carried to the gunk. If you need a redo, shoot the trigger again to move the platform back! Now head down the hall and climb through the window with the platform waiting for you. Loot all the material in this room then grab the coil and throw it through the window. Use the moving platform to leave. Retrieve the coil then bring it to across the room with the lift in it. Eliminate the gunk then place the coil on the Energy Fissure. Climb up the mushroom and work your way forward. Clear up the gunk above the lift then ride the lift up. When it stops, clean up the gunk for the lift to continue. It’ll stop again but this time exit the lift via a raised ledge.

Work your way until you reach the room with the turbine. In this room, clear the gunk then turn the bridge. Shoot the coil down from the ceiling and place it on the Energy Fissure.

Climb on up the grab another coil and throw it to the Energy Fissure on the wall.

Jump across the mushrooms then climb through the window across the way. Walk onto the gunk net and start cleaning the gunk. When you’re done, the lift will continue to rise. Gunk will stop you once more but this time you’re in for a bit of a surprise… cue the Gunk Beast! Since there are no rocks this time to stun it, shoot it with a Plasma Pulse then swing around and suck up the red dot on it’s back. You’ll need to do this 3 times to defeat it. Also, make sure to quickly slurp up the rest of the gunk as it’ll just keep spawning the beasts! Gunk Drippers are the next obstacle that stops the lift. Quickly exit the lift via the platform and follow the path to a room. Clear the gunk then continue up the mushrooms to reach a ledge. Go down the hallway and out through a window to find a turbine. Use it to move the bridge so you can cross to the lift. On the opposite side of the room, there is a stuck bridge. Jump onto it then climb through the window to find a melon.

Use the melon to clear the gunk then climb up to the top of the room. Grab the coil and throw it at the Energy Fissure. Grab another coil and backtrack all the way back to the room you started in on this floor. Throw it in the Energy Fissure then climb up the mushroom to reach the Rhiza Twine.

Climb the twine to reach the top of the lift where the gunk it. Clear it out to continue moving upward. The lift will stop once more. Again, clear the gunk. Next, exit the lift and continue into The Dome of Geist. Clear out the gunk in your way. Continue down the hall until you reach a stop where you can place your beacon. Do so then do any last minute upgrades. Make sure to scan Heri at the Campsite to gain his entry.

While you’re at the Campsite, make sure to also scan the Portable Stove near the beacon to gain its entry as well!

When you’re ready, shoot the trigger above the door to continue forward. After the cutscene, use the key where shown in the image below.

This will trigger another cutscene. Afterwards, run around the room, pulling the 2 switches to release the barrier surrounding the Gardener. Run up to him and scan him to receive The Gardener entry.

Next, quickly suck the cords he’s hanging from. You’ll only be able to get so many before he shoots you back and the barrier reforms. Run around the room to pull the remaining 2 switches to cause the barrier to drop again. Run up and suck away the remaining cords to trigger a cutscene. Congratulations on completing the game!
