Gamer’s Log 011

Happy Monday everyone, Chappie here with Gamer’s Log number 11. Over this past weekend,  I finished Red Dead Redemption 2 but decided not to make any guides for it. Moving on to the upcoming games, I’m really looking forward to the launch of Fallout 76 next week along with Pokemon Let’s Go and will definitely be doing guides on both. The Fallout and Pokemon franchises are games I really enjoy with Pokemon being one of the first games I started playing way back in the day (my living dex is full of Pokemon from almost all of my playthroughs).

I think the choice to have a multiplayer Fallout is interesting given the series history of single player immersion, but I’m still excited to give it a shot. My hope is that this will be another game to add to the list of games for couples (my wife is also a big fan of Fallout and can’t wait to take all the loot while I’m fighting off the Super Mutants). Between her need to explore every little crevice in the world and my love for fighting, I have no doubt we will experience everything Fallout 76 has to offer.

As for Pokemon, I am excited that they are pushing out a new spinoff while the next core game is in development. Moving from the DS to the Switch is a big undertaking and I hope with the time, they will make something magical. Getting back to the topic at hand, I’m really excited to see how Pokemon Let’s Go turns out. Exploring Kanto in a new way can either be exciting or a let down depending on how it’s done. We have been there a handful of times so this being a success will all come down to how they change the way it’s experienced. The features I’m really looking forward to are being able to actually throw a Pokeball (come on you know you’ve always wanted too!) and being able to play with a friend (now my wife can’t get out of it). I also think being able to have a Master Trainer title is kind of cool. I’m sure when it finally does come out, I will have a lot more to say about.

With the upcoming games out of the way let’s talk about Red Dead Redemption 2. I want to start this off saying that it was a fantastic game. The story was really well done and I found myself pushing through it as fast as I could. It has some major twists and turns that really hit you in the feels over its 6 chapters and 2 epilogues that took me around 60 hours to beat. The character development of the main character, Arthur, over the course of the game made me really care for him by the end (even more so than John in the first game). The other thing I really enjoyed was the side missions. They were really well done and had quite a bit of humor in them. One questline has Arthur helping a doctor who was inventing the electric chair and we got to hunt down both moonshine and an outlaw to test it on. Now before we got into what I didn’t like, let me explain something. When I play a game, I like to be immersed in the experience and I like to explore everything. So to start my complaints, I felt that the characters in the main story missions were too pushy in getting you to move forward with the objective. I felt like I couldn’t take the time to loot in between fights because they were always yelling at me to hurry up. One mission, in particular, has the gang riding up to a big plantation house on their horses, then dismounting and meeting by the front gate. I got off my horse a tad bit farther from everyone else and was getting yelled at by Dutch for taking too long. My next complaint it how careful you have to be while riding a horse in town. One second you’re riding your horse in the road, the next a random NPC will jump in the way and get run over. This, of course, lead to a long gunfight where I end up fighting what seems like an unlimited supply of lawmen for twenty minutes before I hop back on my horse and flee the city with a bounty of $500 plus on my head. The other issue that really got on my nerves was when you’re riding along and a random lady will ask for help. You stop to talk with her only to learn that this was a stick up which results in you killing her and the other people trying to rob you. Then when you get back on your horse to keep going, some random person rides by and you get flagged as a murderer for defending yourself. You then have to chase them down and deal with them before they reach a lawman thus spawning the infinite hoard of them raining hellfire down upon you again, just for taking out some bandits. Now in my case, these three things happened so much that by the time I finished the story, I was done with the game and ready to move on. If none of those things bother you, then give this game a shot. Warning it does start out a little slow, but it really picks up after the first couple of hours.

In the meantime, while I wait for next Tuesday to get here, I found myself messing around in Elder Scrolls Online again and starting a necromancer in Diablo III. I plan to play both of these games until Fallout 76 releases and I dive in. With that, this Gamer’s Log comes to a close. Until next time, Chappie signing off!
