How to Start the New in New LA Affinity Mission
In Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition, affinity and main story missions are unique in that you can only undertake one at a time. If you begin an affinity mission, you won’t be able to start a main story mission, and vice versa. Furthermore, you can only have one affinity or story mission active at any given time.
The New in New LA affinity mission in Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition can be found in NLA’s Industrial District. The recommended level for this mission is 44, and the required level is 44. To begin this mission, you must complete Chapter 9 and the “Manhunt” affinity mission. The primary destination is Sylvalum.

New in New LA Walkthrough

After accepting this mission, travel to the Administrative District and head for the AM Terminal in Armory Alley. To its right, you’ll spot a Male BLADE speaking with a Ma-non. Approach them to get some intel on Celica. Next, you’ll want to head to the BLADE Tower and talk with Vandam near the entrance. He’ll mention that Celica asked what she needed to do to become a BLADE, and as a joke, Vandam told her to complete a mission solo.

You’ll now need to track down intel on where Rock went. If you return to the AM Terminal in Armor Alley, you’ll be able to get that piece of info from the same Male BLADE as before. Since it’s close by, stroll on over to the BLADE Barracks to spot Rook sitting in front of the entrance. Speak with him to fill him in on the details you learned about Celica.

Follow Celica to the Behemoth’s Shadow, which can be found in the eastern part of Sylvalum, east of the North Ciel Sandsea. The entrance to the cave is right across from FN Site 420. Approach the cave entrance to trigger a cut scene where Rock will tell you more about him and Celica.

Afterward, enter the cave and work your way to its depths. The route there will be littered with enemies that have levels in the low 40s. If you happen to have the flight module on your Skell, you’ll be able to bring it with you. Otherwise, you’ll need to hoof it on foot. When you reach the large room filled with water, drop down to the water level and approach the objective marker to trigger a cut scene. When it concludes, you’ll be thrown into battle with the level 44 Dimnet Xiphas.
Once the enemy has been dealt with, return to the entrance of Behemoth’s Shadows to find Celica and Rock. Speak with Celica to kick off another cutscene. After it finishes, return to BLADE Tower and speak with Vandham. This will trigger one final cutscene, leading to the completion of the mission!
Completion Rewards
As a reward for completing the New in New LA affinity mission, you’ll receive the following:
- Experience x360

- Knife Art “Black Bane”
- Celica becomes a party member
