How to Start the Climbing the Ladder Affinity Mission
In Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition, affinity and main story missions are unique in that you can only undertake one at a time. If you begin an affinity mission, you won’t be able to start a main story mission, and vice versa. Furthermore, you can only have one affinity or story mission active at any given time.
The Climbing the Ladder affinity mission in Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition can be found in NLA’s Administrative District. The recommended level for this mission is 45 and the required level is 37. To begin this mission, you must complete Chapter 9. The primary destination is Noctilum. The required affinity with H.B. is Rank 4.

Objectives
- Defeat three solider insidias near Noctilum’s Fukui Pass
- Look around Noctilum’s Weeping Whitewood
- Defeat the empress insidia in Noctilum’s Weeping Whitewood
- Head to the administration district and report
- Shield Art “Flamehand”
Climbing the Ladder Walkthrough
After you accept the mission, travel to Noctilum and head for Fukui Pass. If you have FN Site 215, you can fast travel there and then head east to find the level 40 Solider Insidias. After taking out three of them, a cutscene will trigger where H.B. tasks the squad with going after the queen.
Head northeast toward the Weeping Whitewood to reach the search area. You should spot Lara Nara on the left side of the giant palm leaf.
Approach him to trigger a cutscene. During it, you’ll want to make sure to say that Vandham was right and that H.B. should help out the other BLADE. Following the cutscene, continue heading northeast to find the level 45 Empress Insidia that you’ll need to defeat.
Once the empress has been dealt with, return to NLA and head to BLADE tower. Near the entrance, a cutscene will trigger leading to the completion of the mission.
