The Xenoblade Chronicles 2 side quest in Breath of the Wild is a cross-promotional DLC. Upon exiting the Great Plateau, the quest activates automatically.

Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Walkthrough
Link is tasked with finding three red shooting stars that fell at specific locations across Hyrule. Each star leads to a chest containing a piece of the Salvager Armor set, inspired by the protagonist of Xenoblade Chronicles 2. You’ll receive the following clue to find the red shooting stars:
“The southern sky from the middle of the largest bridge. The eastern sky from the skull’s left eye. The southeastern sky from the peak of the tall, pierced snowy mountains.”
Red shooting stars only appear at night between 9:00 PM and 5:00 AM. After finding one, you’ll need to rest in a bed to reset the night and trigger another.
Salvager Headwear – Bridge of Hylia
The first clue directs Link to the Bridge of Hylia, located in Lake Hylia. At night, stand on the bridge and look to the southern sky. A red shooting star will appear, accompanied by a distinct sound.
Follow its descent to the beach on the southeastern side of Lake Hylia. There, you’ll find a red chest containing the Salvager Headwear, which increases your Swim Speed.
Salvager Vest – Zuna Kai Shrine
The second clue points to the Zuna Kai Shrine, situated at the upper eye of Skull Lake in the Akkala region.
From the shrine, look eastward at night. A red shooting star will fall in that direction. At the landing site on the top of the mountain, retrieve the red chest containing the Salvager Vest, which increases your Swim Speed.
Salvager Trousers – Hebra Peak
The top of the peak has cold temperatures, so wearing cold-resistant gear is advisable!
The final clue leads to Hebra Peak, located in the Hebra region. Ascend to the summit, ensuring it’s nighttime.
From the peak, look towards the southeastern sky, and a red shooting star will appear. Paraglide to its landing site on a snowy ledge to find the chest containing the Salvager Trousers.
Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Set Bonus and Completion
Equipping all three pieces of the Salvager Armor set grants a significant increase in swimming speed, making it one of the most useful armor sets for traversing Hyrule’s waterways. Completing this quest adds a unique crossover element from Xenoblade Chronicles 2, enriching the Breath of the Wild experience.
