By piecing together scattered clues, you’ll follow a trail that leads through danger, deception, and plenty of loot. Stay sharp—the final payoff might be worth more than you bargained for.

How to Start the Vend of the Line Quest
To begin the Vend of the Line side mission in Borderlands 4, speak with Penelope Streams at Carcadia in the Ruined Sumplands.
How to Complete the Vend of the Line Quest
DO NOT do this mission in a party as it will only let ONE member choose a legendary weapon from the machine at the end of the mission!
This weird Vault Gatherer club (cult? TBD) seems to think there’s an elaborate trail that leads to a vaulted Legendary Vending Machine. So you should probably get to it before they do in case the loot is sweet.
Talk to Vault Gatherer
After accepting this quest, speak with the Vault Gatherer Scout next to the ammo vending machine.
Inspect Machine
Next, head to the back side of the above vending machine to find some symbols and examine them.
Sell Green, Sell Green, Sell Blue, Sell Blue
Now that you know the pattern, head to the front of the machine and sell two greens and two blues. These can be weapons, shields, etc.
Find Other Vending Machine Clues
Vending Machine #1
In search of the other vending machine clues, head to the island southwest of Carcadia to find a lever that you’ll need to switch to power up a vending machine.
On the same island, locate the vending machine you just powered up.
On the back side of this machine, you’ll find the next clue for what to sell to it:
- Green, purple, blue, green
Next, buy back the items in the same color pattern: green, purple, blue, and green.
Vending Machine #2
When you are ready for the next clue, head south to find someone crushed by a machine at Crumblehall. On top of this machine, examine the two arrows pointing north. Head in the direction the arrows show and climb the stairs.
On the left side, you’ll see a metal shed. Climb on the roof then jump across the gap to the ladder.
At the top, take a left and follow the path to reach a stack.
Climb on and peek through the window to find the clue on what to sell:
- Purple, purple, orange, orange
You won’t have to actually sell anything as the guy will do it for you!
Vending Machine #3
For this clue, travel to the next objective at Embracer’s Bluff, which is southeast of the Makeshift Cahlet safehouse in Lopside. After arriving, speak with Vault Gatherer Scout standing next to a guns vending machine.
When instructed, melee the machine. Afterward, head around back for the code.
- Green, purple, blue, purple
To free up the machine, you’ll need to either melee the customer or shoot the machine to activate the defense system. It does not matter. Once the vending machine is free, sell the items in the above order!
Follow Coordinates to Machine
To find the next machine, travel to The Dusty Dangler in the northern part of the Grindstone of the Worthy.
Once there, view the clue on the back of the vending machine:
- Green, blue, purple, orange
Next, sell items to the vending machine following the order of the clue.
Follow Powered Wire
After selling the items, follow the power lines northeast of the vending machine to the bottom of the cliff, where you’ll find some Vault Gatherer Scouts.
Find Legendary Vending Machine
After the Vault Gatherers get the door open, follow them into the cave and keep heading down the linear path until you reach the vending machine. When it turns hostile, defeat the creature!
After speaking with Zane, interact with the vending machine and pick your legendary!
DO NOT do this mission in a party as it will only let ONE member choose a legendary weapon from the machine!
After you’ve chosen your weapon, exit the cave to complete the mission.
