Welcome to NGB and our Unicorn Overlord guide on the Uprooting the Rock Rats side quest! Learn how to begin and finish the quest, discover the rewards you’ll earn, the key characters in our victorious team, and the strategy we applied to conquer the battle stage. Keep in mind that we prioritized tasks like freeing forts, capturing bridges, and clearing watchtowers before meeting the victory conditions to maximize experience points, war funds, Honors, and renown, all crucial for strengthening the Liberation Army.
How to Start the Uprooting the Rock Rats Side Quest
Tavel to southeastern part of Cornia and speak with the Townsperson there who will ask for the Liberation Army’s aide in driving out some bandits. This will trigger a cutscene leading to you obtaining the quest.
How to Complete Uprooting the Rock Rats
When you’re ready to being the side quest, interact with the banners. This will trigger a cutscene leading to the Battle Stage. For this fight you’ll be facing mainly Hoplites and Warriors, so keep that in mind when you are picking which characters to bring. For this stage, there are a lot of Barricades so it might be worth bringing a Gladiator like Bruno or the Housecarl like Aubin to clear the way for your other units.
For this battle, we used the following units:
- Josef’s unit = Lex and Chloe
- Aubin’s unit = Travis, Alain and Yahna
For the fight, you’ll be joined by Mille and the battlefield will be laid out with the enemies on the east side and your Command Post on the west side. The area between the Command Posts will be littered with Barricades with a Watchtower in the middle and the Tiche Donne Town next to it.
Be on the lookout for shiny objects on the ground throughout the battle stage. You’ll be able to receive the following items: Conveyance Stone and Hallowed Corne Ash.
Nina will be stationed there! First destroy the Barriers to reach the Watchtower to remove the ranged assists from the equation. Afterwards, take Mille to Tiche Donne Town to speak with Nina. After their conversation, defeat her there to receive a Counter Belt. Once Nina is defeated, a cutscene will trigger. You’ll then need to set your sights on the Watchtower in the woods. Please note that the Watchtower by the Command Post has Heal Assist!
When you move to the Command Post, you’ll face Bryce. Upon defeating him, you’ll receive the Ironclad Towershield and the stage will complete. A cutscene will then trigger and you’ll have the option to recruit Nina to the Liberation Army.

As a reward for completing The Rock Rats quest, you’ll receive the following:
- Recruit’s Handaxe
- Barricade Kit
- Thieves
