Welcome to NGB and our Unicorn Overlord guide on The Unyielding Shield side quest! Learn how to begin and finish the quest, discover the rewards you’ll earn, the key characters in our victorious team, and the strategy we applied to conquer the battle stage. Keep in mind that we prioritized tasks like freeing forts, capturing bridges, and clearing watchtowers before meeting the victory conditions to maximize experience points, war funds, Honors, and renown, all crucial for strengthening the Liberation Army.
How to Start The Unyielding Shield Quest
Follow along the road heading west from the Saint le Riche Town to witness a soldier on the road surrounded by 3 bandits. Approach them to trigger a cutscene leading to the start of The Unyielding Shield quest.
How to Complete The Unyielding Shield
After accepting the quest, speak with Hans who will tell you where the bandits went. Head west across the bridge then go south along the river into the woods. As you head through the woods, you’ll be ambushed by Thieves!! Keep taking them out until you reach the battle location.
You’ll then need to interact with the point to view the battle details and fight 2 Gladiators. This is considered an Overworld Battle, so you’ll need to defeat them in one turn for it to count. Upon defeating the enemies, you’ll trigger a cutscene where Hans will be reunited with Laika.
After the cutscene, speak with Monica, which will add the banners to the world map. When you’re ready, interact with them to begin the Battle Stage. The main enemy you’ll face are Radiant Knights, which are weak to flying.
When you reach the Stage Map, you’ll be in the southeastern corner while Monica will be in the north. You’ll need to work your way to her along the main road.
For this battle, we used the following units:
- Clive’s unit = Sharon, Melisandre and Hodrick
- Fran’s unit = Miriam and Kitra
Our strategy was to send Clive and an additional unit west to garrison the bridge. Use the additional unit to garrison the bridge preventing other enemy units to rush your Command Post. Use Clive to take over Fort Cypla. While they was doing that, we had Fran fly north to the Watchtower and take it out before liberating Pasteau le Mont Garrison.
Be on the lookout for shiny objects on the ground throughout the battle stage. You’ll be able to receive the following items: Wind Faerie’s Charm, Healing Tonic (S)
Once you take Fort Cypla, your next goal will be to liberate Sudd Town up the road.
When you move Clive, position the other unit at Fort Cypla. Concurrently you’ll wan to station the other unit at Pasteau le Mont Garrison there was well. For liberating Sudd Town, you’ll receive a Concealing Cloak. Once you get close to Monic, an event will trigger where she’ll call her forces in to surround you. Additional enemies will spawn by Fort Cypla, the Watchtower in the north corner, Pasteau le Mont Garrison and Monica herself. We took Clive and stationed him at the catapult across from Sudd Town. We then used the catapult to deal with the Gryphons from the northwestern corner. As the other units clean up their enemies, you can send them to help Clive.
Afterwards, convene on Monica and take her down to receive the White Knight’s Shield and the Stage Clear will trigger. This will lead into a cutscene where Monica will join your cause.

- Mantlet Kit
