How to Recruit Jaheira
To recruit Jaheira, you must side against the absolute in Act II and choose to save the Nightsong. You might have also needed to save the Druids’ Grove in Act I as well. As long as she survives the assault on Moonrise Towers, you’ll be able to get her to join the party just before heading underground chasing after Ketheric Thorm.
You’ll need to progress to Act III to proceed with the below objectives!
Go to Baldur’s Gate
You won’t be able to do much with Jaheira until you reach Baldur’s Gate in Act III. Once you do, add her to the party and head for Wyrm’s Crossing, north of Rivington. You’ll then want to head inside Danthelon’s Dancing Axe and speak with Danthelon behind the counter. He’ll give you a key and send you downstairs (through the nearby double doors.
Climb down the ladder and approach the Harpers to trigger a cutscene. The young Harper will drop a couple of hints that this is a trap that Jaheira will pick up on. Choosing to wait for her signal gains her approval and leads to a battle where you’ll catch the enemies unaware. Defeat them, then speak with her, and afterward, Harper Geraldus.
Find Minsc
After some time passes, speak with Jaheira at camp while resting to ask if she has any leads on Minsc. She’ll say their best bet is to talk to Nine-Fingers Keene, who leads the criminal Guild.
Speak to Nine-Fingers Keene at the Guildhall
Enter Lower City in Baldur’s Gate, then head for the alley directly west of the Basilisk Gate waypoint.
There will be a manhole cover on the higher passing under the stone archway. Interact with it to reach the Lower City Sewers.
At the bottom, you’ll be trapped on all sides. If you pass a perception check, you’ll notice a wall on the western side of the room can be broken. You’ll need to use magic to do this. A couple of thunderwaves worked for us. Keep in mind the wall is immune to fire.
Once you get through, head west to reach a locked door at the top of a stone stairway. You’ll need to pass a lockpicking check of 20 to unlock it.
Head inside and pass through the doorway straight ahead to reach Keene. Speak with her to learn some information about Minsc, but she won’t give up everything.
Head down the stairs past the bar to locate Uktar, the man with the mask from before. Talk with him, and he’ll send you to the Counting House.
Find Minsc at the Counting House
Proceed to the Counting House in the southwestern section of Lower City. Head inside once you arrive and speak with Head Clerk Meadhoney.
If you have Jaheira in your party, she’ll lead the conversation, leading to a persuasion check. Pass that, and you’ll receive a vault pass to head down into the vault. Approach the Iron Fence and present your pass. You must do this again as you head for the vault door.
Proceed deeper into the Counting House until you reach the inner vault with the 9 pressure plates before it.
To unlock the door, you’ll need to step on tiles 1 – 3 – 5 – 6 in order, starting from the top left square. You’ll want to split up the party to do this, as stepping on the wrong tile will reset the lock.
Once you’ve opened the door, head on inside.
You don’t need to find the vault password to access the vault since it’s always 1356. If you wish to do so, it can be found in the Head Banker’s Office on the 2nd floor. You’ll need to sneak up there to get it.
A cutscene will trigger where you’ll meet Minsc and see what’s really going on. You’ll then be thrown into battle against a handful of Bhaal fanatics. They will start out the battle by going invisible, so you can’t target them. You can use AOE moves to flush them out or play defense for a couple of turns until you get an opening.
After they have all been taken care of, speak with Rakath Glitterbeard. He’ll offer you a reward if you return the stolen coin.
Search the Sewers for Minsc
To pursue Minsc, travel to the Glitter Gala, southwest of Bloomridge Park, and enter the sewer from the manhole in the alleyway on the building’s east side. If you plan on recruiting him to the fold, you’ll want to ensure Jaheira is with you before entering the sewers. She’ll come in handy later during the negotiations!
Once in the sewers, you’ll want to head west towards the Abandoned Cistern. You’ll have to fight 3 enemies near the Sluice Gate controls when you arrive.
Kevo Phogge will summon a horde of angry crows to assist them in the fight, so make sure you are prepared for that.
After they go down, interact with the controls to put everything on the right side of the green mark on the gauge. This will open the gate below, allowing you to head inside. Make sure to save before doing so, as a cutscene will trigger when you emerge on the other side, leading to a battle with Misnc and crew.
For this fight, you’ll want to ensure you defeat Minsc with non-lethal attacks, which a toggle on the attack/skill can enable. If you don’t, you’ll kill Minsc, resulting in Jeheira leaving the party for good.
Also, pay attention to the halfling Roah. She will have the stolen gold from the vault. and will make a B-line for the exit. Don’t worry about her, as you’ll be able to find her at the Guildhall following the fight.
Once all the enemies have been dealt with and Minsc knocked out, a cutscene will play out where you’ll ask the Emperor to extend his protection to Minsc.
If you had chosen not to bring Jeheira, then you’d need to pass a hard persuasion check to convince him to do so. If she is present, however, she will guarantee that Minsc will be saved.
Before leaving the Abandoned Cistern, loot the letter off of the fake Jaheira. You’ll be able to use it during the Aid the Underduke quest.
Speak with Minsc
Follow after Minsc, who will have to exit the area through a wall in the wall on the northern side. When you catch up to the big man, speak with him to trigger another cutscene.
After it ends, you can accept Minsc into the party!! This will also complete the High Harper quest!
