How to Start The Artist’s Story Questline
To begin The Artist’s Story questline in Fantasy Life I, you’ll need to progress in the game until you reach the Restore Clefton objective in Chapter 5: The Artist’s Treasure Hunt. This will unlock the Artist’s Life. After doing that, select the Artist Life License in Eternia Village’s Guild Office.
Next, speak with Artist Master Paulette at her atelier to become a Novice.
Artist Life Challenges
Novice Challenges
Set My Soul Ablaze
Seek out Pastelle near the Restaurant, then speak with her to introduce yourself. Follow her back to Paulette’s studio for an event where Pastelle will task you with creating some Blue Paint. She’ll also hand over 2 Blue Anthurium that you can use as materials and teach you the Blue Pain recipe. When you’re ready, interact with the nearby workbench and craft that paint.
Speak with Pastelle once you’re done. Paulette will then task you with helping Pastelle out with he project she is working on. To do this, the two of you will need to head to Stele Island.
It can be found in the Tropica Isles, on the northwest side of the island with the gold-crowned tree. When you get there, interact with the ancient tablet to trigger another event.
Now that Pastelle has her inspiration, return to the Atelier to get to work. She’ll give you a recipe for the Jovial Mask that you’ll need to create. In order to complete this common, you’ll need to use some Blue Paint (which you should already have) and 3 Sugar Lumber. If you don’t have any of those, you should be able to find Sugar Trees in the area north of the city. You’ll need 9 Sugar Logs to craft the 3 lumbers. Alternatively, you can purchase it for 600 Dosh each at the Piccas Resort.
Once you have the mask, speak with Pastelle to show it to her. After being blown away by your artistic prowess, you’ll need to deliver the mask to Patro. He can be found in the Collector’s House, in the middle of town near the Bulletin Board.
Patro will love it so much, you’ll receive 1,000 Dosh. Report back to Paulette back at her Atelier and speak with her to complete the quest. You’ll receive 100 Stars, brining you to the Fledgling rank. You’ll also unlock the Thatched House B skin for your home base.

A Serious Artist
For this life challenge, you’ll need to craft 10 art recipes. As a reward, you’ll receive 150 Stars.
A Southern Breeze
For this life challenge, you’ll need to craft a Tropical Wall. To craft this recipe, you’ll need the following materials:
- Red Paint x2
- Palm Lumber x4
You can craft the Red Paint using 3 Red Anthurium per one. The Palm Lumber will require 3 Palm Logs per lumber.
As a reward, you’ll receive 100 Stars.
Blue Palette
For this life challenge, you’ll need to craft 10 Blue Paints. To craft the Blue Paint, you’ll need the following materials:
- Blue Anthurium x3 (per paint)
This means you’ll need a total of 30 Blue Anthurium to make all 10 paints.
As a reward, you’ll receive 100 Stars.
Let’s Live Barefoot
For this life challenge, you’ll need to craft a Joined Wood Floor. To craft the Joined Wood Floor, you’ll need the following materials:
- Oak Lumber x5
You can make Oak Lumber by using 3 Oak Logs per lumber. You’ll need 15 Oak Logs to craft all the lumber needed for this common. You can find Oak Trees around Eternia Village.
As a reward, you’ll receive 100 Stars.
Red Palette
For this life challenge, you’ll need to craft 10 Red Paints. To craft red paint, you’ll need the following materials:
- Red Anthurium x3 (per paint)
To make all 10 Red Paints, you’ll need a total of 30 Red Anthurium.
As a reward, you’ll receive 100 Stars.
That Fateful Brushstroke
For this life challenge, you’ll need to get 20 EXCELLENTs while creating art! As a reward, you’ll receive 100 Stars.
White PAlette
For this life challenge, you’ll need to craft 10 White Paints. To craft the White Paints, you’ll need the following materials:
- White Anthurium x3 (per paint)
You’ll need a total of 30 White Anthurium to craft all 10 of the paints you need.
As a reward, you’ll receive 100 Stars.
Yellow PAlette
For this life challenge, you’ll need to craft 10 Yellow Paints. To craft the Yellow Paints, you’ll need the following materials:
- Yellow Anthurium x30
You can find Yellow Anthuriums all around Faraway Island. Alternatively, you can purchase Yellow Paint for 130 Dosh from the Material Shop at Piccas Resort in the Tropica Isles.
As a reward, you’ll receive 100 Stars.
Apprentice Challenges
A Blossom or a Plushing
For this life challenge, you’ll need to craft 1 Plushling Tree Pot. To craft this recipe, you will need the following materials:
- Yellow Paint x1
- Mysteria Masonry x2
- Pine Nuts x1
To craft Yellow Paint, you will need 3 Yellow Anthuriums. You can find Yellow Anthuriums all around Faraway Island. Alternatively, you can purchase Yellow Paint for 130 Dosh from the Material Shop at Piccas Resort in the Tropica Isles.
You can get Mysteria Masonry from mining ore deposits. Alternatively, you can purchase Mysteria Masonry for 50 Dosh from the Material Shop in the Capital of Mysteria or in Eternia Village at the Blacksmith’s Guild.
As a reward, you will receive 250 Stars.
A Fastidious Artist
For this life challenge, you’ll need to craft 20 times. As a reward, you will receive 300 Stars.
Cherry Blossoms Big One
For this life challenge, you’ll need to craft 1 Cherry Lordfish Print. To craft this recipe, you will need the following materials:
- Cherry Lordfish x1
- Cherry Lordfish Moss x1
- Suspicious Objects x3
- Cherry Lumber x2
To find a Cherry Lordfish, enter the Lulab Forest on Faraway Island from the Valley of Spirits then travel to the southeastern corner.
Capture the fish to get Cherry Lordfish and Cherry Lordfish Moss.
Alternatively, you can purchase Cherry Lordfish and Cherry Lordfish Moss for 750 Dosh each from the Material Shop on the west side of the Tropica Isles.
Suspicious Objects are dropped by Proto Beetle Ballers around the Capital of Mysteria or from Star Beetle Ballers in Da Finci Cave in the Tropica Isles. You can also purchase Suspicious Objects for 50 Dosh from the Material Shop in the Capital of Mysteria.
Cherry Lumber can be crafted using 3 Cherry Logs, which you can get from the Cherry Trees around Lulab Forest or at Terrasa Farm on Faraway Island. Alternatively, you can purchase Cherry Lumber for 330 Dosh from the Material Shop at Terrasa Farm on Faraway Island.
As a reward, you will receive 250 Stars.
Forest Big One
For this life challenge, you’ll need to craft 1 Forest Lordfish Print. To craft this recipe, you will need the following materials:
- Forest Lordfish x1
- Forest Lordfish Moss x1
- Suspicious Object x3
- Oak Lumber x2
To find a Forest Lordfish, enter the Lulab Forest on Faraway Island from Idylla Village then head to the southeastern corner.
Capture the fish to get Forest Lordfish and Forest Lordfish Moss. Alternatively, you can purchase the Forest Lordfish and Forest Lordfish Moss for 380 Dosh each from the Material Shop on the west side of the Tropica Isles.
Suspicious Objects are dropped by Proto Beetle Ballers around the Capital of Mysteria or from Star Beetle Ballers in Da Finci Cave in the Tropica Isles. You can also purchase Suspicious Objects for 50 Dosh from the Material Shop in the Capital of Mysteria.

For this life challenge, you’ll need to craft 1 Forest Lily Light. To craft this recipe, you will need the following materials:
- Puriffodil x1
- Calmaryllis x1
- Oak Log x1
Puriffodil can be found around the Tropica Isles. They are the plants with a puffball on top. Alternatively, you can purchase Puriffodils for 230 Dosh each at the Material Shop at Terrasa Farm on Faraway Island.
You can purchase Calmaryllis for 350 Dosh from the Material Shop at Piccas Resort in the Tropica Isles.
Oak Logs can be acquired by chopping down the Oak Trees around Eternia Village and the Capital of Mysteria. Alternatively, you can purchase them for 50 Dosh from the Material Shop in the Capital of Mysteria or in Eternia Village at the General Goods store.
As a reward, you will receive 250 Stars.
Prodigious Talent
For this life challenge, you’ll need to craft 1 item with Good or Better quality. As a reward, you will receive 500 Stars.
Stable Castle Grounds
For this life challenge, you’ll need to craft 1 Regal Floor. To craft this recipe, you will need the following materials:
- Calmaryllis x2
- Mysteria Masonry x5
You can purchase Calmaryllis for 350 Dosh from the Material Shop at Piccas Resort in the Tropica Isles.
You can get Mysteria Masonry from mining ore deposits. Alternatively, you can purchase Mysteria Masonry for 50 Dosh from the Material Shop in the Capital of Mysteria or in Eternia Village at the Blacksmith’s Guild.

For this life challenge, you’ll need to craft 1 Regal Wallpaper. To craft this recipe, you will need the following materials:

To craft a Blue Paint, you will need 3 Blue Anthuriums, which can be found around the Capital of Mysteria.
You can purchase Calmaryllis for 350 Dosh from the Material Shop at Piccas Resort in the Tropica Isles.
