How to Start the That Which Remains Quest
To begin the That Which Remains side quest in Avowed, loot the Flame-Eaten Diary off the cleric.
To reach the body inside the house, jump on the fence then jump to the overhang over the front door.
You’ll then be able to reach the roof from there. Drop down into the house! Alternatively, you can climb up the cliffs behind the house then drop down into it.
That Which Remains Walkthrough
Scaedclef, a small Aedyran settlement in the Ancient Lakebed, burned down. Investigate the remains. Find out what happened there.
Find the Key to the Laboratory
When facing the research house, head right and follow the path around the cliff to find a grate in the cliffside.
Use ice to break the grate then follow the tunnel. You’ll find the Research Home Key on the wall next to the front door of the room that you enter.
Be careful when you exit this house as a Greater Ash Blight will attack you!
Explore the Laboratory
Return to the research house and use the key to enter the laboratory. Loot the Well Key off of the table. While you’re in this room, grab the unique shield and loot the chest!
Enter the Well
You’ll find the well on the north side of the village.
Use the key to travel to the Scaedclef Grotto.
Investigate the Grotto
Head through the grotto, taking out the enemies as you come across them. After you defeat the spiders, take the tunnel on the left to find a lockbox with loot.
Return to the spider room then break the weak southwestern wall to reveal another tunnel. Inside this room, you’ll find cages. From there, climb up the rocks to the right of the cage then follow that path around and drop into the room with the people talking.
Speak with them!
If you kill Fewen, the quest ends and you won’t receive any rewards.
If you choose to get the supplies, speak with Captain Wymgar at Eagle’s Reach. Tell him you know about the burnt village and request he send them supplies. He will gladly do so and will even go as far as asking if the thralls are still alive. He will be glad when he learns they are. You’ll also be rewarded with 900 gold.
If you decide to kill the thralls, you’ll need to head back to their cages to deal with them yourself. Afterward, speak with the scientists, who will present you with more choices. Sending them back to Eagle’s Reach, requesting supplies for them, or killing the other one.
If you send them to Eagle’s Reach, the captain will be furious, saying that will put a target on all of their backs. Choosing to have them sent supplies will play out similarly to not killing the thralls, but the captain will be saddened to hear they were all killed, and killing the scientist will end the quest with no rewards.
