Welcome to NGB and our guide for the Breach of Contract mission in Starfield! This guide will walk you through starting the mission and detail the necessary steps for its completion. How to Start the Breach of Contract Mission
Breach of Contract is a companion mission for Barrett. You’ll start this quest after conversing with Barrett and handful of times and supporting him looking into the legal troubles of his late husband.
After starting this mission, Barrett will be locked to your party until you complete it.
Breach of Contract Walkthrough
Take Barrett to Gagarin
Gargarin is another planet in the Alpha Centauri System. Head there then land at the Gagarin Landing. After exiting the ship, speak with Barrett.
Talk with the Lawyer
Head into town then take a right after you pass the infirmary and follow the path to the end. Head up the stairs to the left and you’ll reach the law office. Head inside and speak with Ellie. To sum it up you need more evidence. You’ll be given a choice on where to go to try and find it. We chose to check Ervin’s apartment first.
Find Ervin’s Apartment
Make your way to the northwestern part of town to find the apparent.
Use the key Barrett gives you to unlock the door then head inside. Explore the room, but make sure to do what’s listed below to progress the mission.
- Use Ervin’s Terminal in the bedroom
- View all private messages
- Unlock the living room Safe (Advanced Hack)
- Grab Alien Cactus in the bedroom
- Collect the items in the living room safe
Go to Town Hall
Exit the apartment and head to Town Hall which is under the law firm.
Use the Town Hall Terminal inside to look up Ervin’s license.
Go to the Foundry District
Exit Town Hall then follow the walkway heading behind it to reach the foundry.
Interact with the Foundry Terminal using your account. Exhaust all of the options then use the Admin account to get the coordinates to a mine. Speak with Barrett afterward.
Go to the Hephaestus Mine
Bring up your starmap and use it to travel to Hephaestus Mine H-363.
Once you arrive, head into the building while keeping your eyes peeled. The area is swarming with pests! Travel to the back end of the floor and you’ll find a records room. Access the Hephaestus Mining Computer there and check out all of the folders on it.
There is also a locked Comms Room door in the records room. You can find the keycard for that door on a table in the rec room.
The next step is to find Ervin’s terminal. Head up the stairs to the left of the records room and use the elevator there to travel into the mine. When you get off the elevator, head through the building to reach Ervin’s office in the last room. Interact with his terminal and hack the Novice level lock then check out all of the files on his computer. There is another terminal in the room next to Ervin’s you can check out as well and a magazine on the table outside his office.
To get the last of the evidence, you’ll need to head down the stairs and into the mine. Follow along the main tunnel until you end up at Helgi Hauksson’s Computer.
Access it then decrypt the novice lock to view her files. Also, be prepared to fight more pests. Their queen can be found near the terminal if you’re feeling brave.
Deliver the Evidence to the Lawyer
With all of the evidence you’ve gathered, return to Ellie at her law firm to go over the new evidence.
Talk to Dr. Keala About Helgi
Head over to the infirmary to find Dr. Keala. Speak with her about Helgi. She’ll send you off to Clint’s store because of doctor-patient confidentiality. Before you go, ask her to speak on behalf of Helgi’s character. She will agree and say she will do what she can.
Head up the stairs next to the infirmary to reach Clint’s. Speak with Clint inside and ask him about Helgi. If you want info out of him you’ll need to pay 4,000 credits or persuade him to tell you.
Our search continues! Head down the stairs and past the Centauri Mills to reach the bar. Speak with Lizzy behind the counter and ask about Helgi. She’ll demand a payment of 4,000 credits also or you can persuade her to help you. Either option will get you his coordinates.
Convince Helgi to Testify
So it turns out Helgi is hiding under Town Hall!
Head down there and speak with the guy. Exhaust the dialog options to try and convince him to help. Eventually, it will get to the point where you’ll need to pass a persuasion check. After you do, return to Ellie and speak with her to give her the good news. You’ll then need to speak with Barrett. If you were planning on romancing him, you’ll have the option to start a relationship with him or to just stay friends.
This will complete the mission and you’ll be rewarded 250 EXP and some credits.
