How to Start the Primordial Vault: Fadefields Quest

To begin the Primordial Vault: Fadefields side mission in Borderlands 4, you must first collect all three Vault Key Fragments in the Fadelands.

Next, you must locate the Vault Door, which can be found along the western edge of the Dissected Plateau just east of the Pester’s Grotto Ancient Crawler.

Once you’ve found the Vault Door, place the Vault Key Fragments into the pedestal at the base of the broken arch.

How to Complete the Primordial Vault: Fadefields Quest

Survive the gauntlet, Vault Hunter, and you will gain a piece of the Timekeeper’s own power.

Go to your death

Take the orange jump pad and eliminate all nearby enemies.

Progress through your certain annihilation

After the fight, use the next orange launch pad to refuel at the station. Once ready, launch again to face another wave of enemies—defeat everything in your path!

Go toward oblivion

Advance to the next trial and clear out the enemies. When most are defeated, Perturbalon will appear. A purple barrier shields this enemy. Destroy the Vile Ordonite, a pink orb it fires, to break the shield and deal damage to Perturbalon.

Go to point of no return

Once the battlefield is cleared, take the launch pad to a pit stop area with vending machines. Stock up, then prepare for the boss fight ahead.

You’ll face Primordial Guardian Inceptus, a foe two levels stronger than you, with both a Shield and Health bar. Most of its attacks are sweeping strikes—jump to avoid them. Also, watch out for its tail “scorpion” attack. When Inceptus shoots out a bunch of spores, make sure to shoot them!

During the fight, make sure to grapple the monster at its shoulders and legs when the prompt appears to reveal weak points. Shoot these spots to deal extra damage.

After you get its shield down to halfway, it’ll transform into a cocoon that hangs from the ceiling. When this happens, quickly grapple to the plants hanging from the ceiling to avoid the poison that will coat the ground.

Grapple to hanging plants when in cocoon form

Unfortunately, there is not enough space to stay on these hanging plants so you must shoot the cocoon then grapple to the next plant before touching the floor. Make sure to aim your gun at the top of the cocoon to deal extra damage.

During the fight, some adds will spawn around the edges. Ignore them so you can kill them if you go down. Also, make sure to stay out of the grass as it’s poisonous!

Enter the rift… if you dare

After your victory, loot the area and grapple to the purple orb in the room.

Claim your just rewards

Consume the golden orb to gain faster glide regeneration. Before leaving, make sure to grab the two chests on either side of the purple orb rift.
