Rocky Ridges Story Progression Guide

The Withered Wasteland is a volcanic region filled with rocky terrain and unique Pokémon encounters. As you progress through this part of the story, you’ll complete a series of objectives that push the narrative forward while unlocking new areas to explore. Below, you’ll find a step-by-step breakdown of the main story progression in the Rocky Ridges, including where to go next, what challenges to expect, and helpful tips for overcoming each section.

Rocky Ridges Walkthrough

Explore Rocky Ridges

  • Follow Prof Tangrowth to the PC and interact with it
  • Attempt to move the PC to the electricity
  • Speak with Prof Tangrowth on how to move the PC

Fix the PC

  • Use your abilities to build some habitats
    • Use water gun on four tall grasses to make a Red Tall Grass Habitat
  • Speak with the Scorbunny that shows up about Machoke
    • You’ll get intel on the Grassy Training Field
  • Build the Grassy Training Field Habitat
    • The sandbags can be found next to the crates along the wall to the right of the workbench
  • Speak with Machoke once it appears about moving the PC
    • Follow it to get some warm-ups in
    • Pick up some rocks, then speak with Machoke to learn Strength
    • Give Machoke a demonstration of your awesome power!
  • Move the PC onto the electricity using your newly acquired muscles

Search for More Info on the Humans

  • Examine the PC to begint he Rebuild the Pokemon Center quest
  • Speak with Prof Tangrowth and then follow it
  • Attempt to cut down the barrel using Ditto’s cut

Craft a Salad Following ???’s Instructions

  • Find a Dartrix to help create the cutting board
    • Build a Pointy Tree-Shaded Rocky Tall Grass Habitat to attract one
      • Requires: Pointy tree x1, Large boulder x1, and Red tall grass x4
  • Speak with Dartrix once it arrives, asking about the cutting board
    • Before it agrees to help, you’ll need to complete its Wanted: Pearch! request
      • You can find the recipe around Rocky Ridges in the form of a Poké Ball
      • Requires: Small long x2 and Leaf x1
  • Talk with Dartrix after placing the perch next to its home
    • You’ll receive the recipe for a cutting board
    • Dartrix will also offer to cut small logs into lumber for you
  • Use the workbench to craft a cutting board (Lumber x2)
  • Place the cutting board on the ground to create the salad
    • You’ll need 2 leaves to use as ingredients
  • Once you’ve prepared the salad, eat it to power up your Leafage
  • Report back to Prof Tangrowth

Bake Some Bread Following ???’s Instructions

  • Locate a Torkoal to help make a bread oven
    • Build a Mossy Hot Spring Habitat in the cave Tangrowth referenced
      • Requires: Hot-spring water x2 and Moss x4
  • Speak with Torkoal after it arrives to ask about the bread oven
    • You’ll need to complete Torkoal’s Clear the Path! Request to receive the bread oven recipe
  • Use the workbench to craft a bread oven
    • Requires: Stone x2, Small Log x2, and Volcanic Ash x4
  • Place the bread over, then grab a fire Pokémon to ignite it
  • Make that bread!
    • You’ll need 3 wheat to use as ingredients
    • You can find some on the southwest side of the area
    • Break the rocks blocking the water to grow some crops
  • Eat the fruit of labor
    • Powers up your cut skill
  • Return to Prof Tangrowth and ??? to cut the latter down

Begin Restoring the Town

  • Speak with Chef Dente, who asks for help restoring the town
  • Talk to Tangrowth about completing requests and creating habitats
  • Complete the Make a Hamburger Steak! Request for Chef Dente
    • Speak with Tangrowth to obtain the Frying Pan recipe
    • Talk with Machoke and complete its Cut down the fence! request
    • Tangrowth will call, telling you about the Smelting Furnace
    • Find Magamar in the tunnel you opened up for Machoke
      • Create a Digging and burning habitat (Wheelbarrow x1, Excavation Tools x1, and Smelting Furnace x1)
    • Use the furnace to smelt some Copper ore into copper ingots
      • You can mine them from around the area using Rock Smash
    • Craft a frying pan
      • Requires: Copper Ingot x2
    • Return to Chef Dente and speak with it, then place the frying pan on the cooking stove
    • Use the frying pan to make a hamburger steak
      • Requires: Beans x4
    • Eat the hamburger steak
      • This powers up Rock Smash
  • Complete the Investigate the source of the music! request for Scorbunny
    • Use Rock Smash or Rollout on the volcanic ash in the direction Scorbunny points
      • You’ll need the hamburger steak to break some of the harder rocks
    • Interact with the stereo
    • Report back to Scorbunny
  • Finish the Time to get chatty! Request for DJ Rotom
    • Speak with DJ Rotom near the path leading to the gate

Complete the Time to Party! Request

  • Speak with Chef Dente to receive the party cooking pot
    • Clear the ash out of the party spot
    • Set up the party cooking pot in that area
    • Speak with Chef Dente when you are done
  • Raise the mood of the party area to 100
    • Talk to Prof Tangrowth about a large lost relic
      • Bring a large lost relic to be appraised by the prof
      • You can find them by using Rock Smash on glowing sections of the ground
      • Place the item that you got appraised
      • Tangrowth will then encourage you to bring other things to enhance the mood
        • Items like balloons, party bunting, or small stage work well
    • Speak with DJ Rotom, who will ask you about CDs
      • Bring DJ Rotom some CDs
        • They can be found around the world on bookshelves or from glowing spots in the ground
        • This only requires 1 or 2, but Rotom can store up to 5
    • Talk to Rotom once again about bringing in a Hype Pokemon!
      • Build a Uplifting Duckweed Habitat to find Ludicolo
        • Use a powered-up Leafage in the water to make duckweed
      • Once Ludicolo appears, have it follow you back to Rotom
    • Speak with Chef Dente about grabbing some more food for the party
      • Cook up 5 of any of the three recipes that Chef Dente taught you
      • Craft 5 party platters
        • Requires: 1 Iron Ingot each
      • Place the platters on the stone tables near the party area
      • Put one of the three dishes in each one
      • Report back to Chef Dente
    • Talk with Rotom about the party
    • Raise the Mood to 100
      • At this point, the mood should be close to 90
      • You’ll want to bring two or more Pokémon with the Hype specialty to hit 100
      • Speak with Rotom once more
  • Speak with Chef Dente to learn it wants to make curry as the main dish
    • To make the curry at the Party Cooking Pot, you’ll need the following:
      • Ingredients: Leppa Berry x15, Wheat x15, Beans x15, and Honey x5
      • Pokemon: Greedent and any 4 additional Pokemon
    • Interact with the Party Cooking Pot, place the ingredients and Pokémon, then start cooking!
      • This will take 5 minutes to cook
    • Speak with Chef Dente once it’s done for the big reveal!
  • Talk to Prof Tangrowth to trigger an event
    • Climb to the top of the volcano and speak with the Pokémon there
    • Return to the Prof and tell them what happened
      • You’ll come up with a recipe for a cannon and fireworks!
