How to Start the Wisdom of the Ages Quest
The Wisdom of the Ages quest in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered will begin when speaking with the Knights of the Nine during the Priory of the Nine quest.
Wisdom of the Ages Walkthrough
Find the Shield of the Crusader
Travel northeast of Leyawiin to Fort Bulwark. Once you arrive, enter the fort. Follow the hallway and take the first available left.
Head straight down the hall, and take the first right to reach a wooden door and open it. Head straight across to reach another wooden door. Open it then head through and follow the path all the way to a room where some Sorcerers were staying. Here you’ll find a handle to turn.
Backtrack down the hallway a short way and take the first left to find that the gate has been opened. Head down this new path to find another handle to turn.
You’ll see that the bridges have lowered. Head back to the room with the bridge and take a left.
Tile Puzzle
After crossing the bridge, you’ll find a puzzle with weights. Only step on the weights highlighted in the picture below. Start at the bottom and work your way up to the top.
Enter through the doorway on the other side of the Fort Bulwark puzzle. You’ll find a man in the second prison cell on the right. Turn the handle to let him out and speak with Sir Thedret.
He’ll tell you a clue on how to get the shield: “When the eyes of the Guardians are upon you, Julianos will show you favor.” Continue on through the Old Wooden Door.
Take a left, heading up some stairs, then enter the Old Wooden Door. Head up the stairs to the left and continue through the wooden door. Take a right and follow the hallway until you emerge in a hallway with a bunch of stone columns.
On the right side of the room, take the stairs up to reach a bridge. Turn the handle to the right of the bridge to lower it.
Quickly walk across as traps will be raining down on you from the ceiling! The next handle can be found to the left of the next bridge.
After crossing the two bridges, walk down the stairs and keep following the path until you reach a room with a bunch of statues. These statues are your next puzzle!
Statue Puzzle
Per the clue given to you earlier from the prisoner, you’ll need to turn the statues using the handle found on the base of each statue until they are all facing the central platform.
Once all have been turned, a door to the left of the statues will open.
Head inside then open the “Old Wooden Door to Fort Bulwark” at the end then follow the path all the way until you reach a chest. This will be yet another puzzle!
Chests Puzzle
To solve this puzzle, stand on the weighted platform just before the big chest in the middle of the room.
Next, take the item from the chest in front of you. When you turn around, one of the statues will be lit up with an image of what belongs in that chest. You’ll need to place the item you have in one of the chests. If you do not know which one it belongs in then move it later.
Otherwise, look at the pictures below to determine which items go in which chests!
After solving the puzzle, head through the newly opened doorway at the top of the stairs and follow the path to find the Shield of the Crusader!
Once you grab the shield, the Wisdom of the Ages will complete! On either side of this altar, you’ll find pathways that are a shortcut to the exit!! Take them then leave the fort.
