How to Start the Unfriendly Competition Quest
To begin the Unfriendly Competition quest in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, speak with Claudette Perrick in The Gilded Carafe, which is in the Imperial City Market District, about Thoronir.
Unfriendly Competition Walkthrough
Speak with Jensine
Head on over to the “Good as New” Merchandise store on the northeastern side of the Market District and speak with Jensine about Thoronir.
Investigate Thoronir
Travel to the Copious Coinpurse, which is near the door to the Green Emperor Way in the southwestern part of the Market District, and speak with him about his inventory. Pick the option Very nice selection, Thoronir. He won’t reveal much!
Next, you’ll need to wait outside the entrance to his shop until about 9 pm. When he leaves, follow him to The Merchants Inn, where he’ll begin eating. After finishing his meal around 11 pm, he’ll get up and leave.
Follow him to a space between some buildings next to a well, where he’ll begin conversing with a stranger. Approach the pair to trigger a dialog event.
Follow Agarmir
After the conversation, it’s time to follow your new target, Agarmir. Follow him all the way to his house in Talos Plaza.
Investigate Agarmir’s House
Wait for Agarmir to leave his house at about 5 pm. Pick the average lock, then head inside. Head to the back of the room and lockpick the hard lock on the door to his basement. Once inside, head down the stairs and enter the room at the bottom. Read the Macabre Manifest on the table and take the book.
Confront Thoronir
Return to Thoronir and speak with him using the Taken from the Dead option. He’ll be absolutely mortified about where the merchandise has been sourced and will say that Agarmir had something important to do today.
Catch Agarmir in the Act
Since we assume this “something important” is digging up a fresh body, head to the Trentius Family Mausoleum in the graveyard at the Imperial City’s Green Emperor Way.
Open the door to the mausoleum, then head inside to find Agarmir and a stranger named Rolgarel. After taking them out, make sure to loot the Debaser weapon from where Agarmir fell and the key to the mausoleum from Agarmir.
The additional evidence you’re looking for is Agarmir’s Shovel, which is leaning against Lord Bellirus Trentius’ grave.
Speak with Thoronir
Travel back to Thoronir and speak with him, showing him the shovel. You’ll receive the Weatherward Circlet as a reward. This circulet has the Resist Fire on Self and Resist Frost on Self effects.
Speak with Jensine
Now that you’ve dealt with Thoronir, return to Jensine to report on everything that transpired. As a reward, she’ll give you 400 gold, and the quest will end.
