How to Start the Through a Nightmare Darkly Quest

To begin the Through a Nightmare Darkly quest in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, speak with the residents of Bravil about a rumor. We specifically spoke with Jean-Pierre Lemonds in Silverhome on the Water Inn.

You’ve heard that Kud-Ei at the Mage’s Guild in Bravil is searching for assistance in locating a missing friend.

Speak with Kud-Ei

Travel to the Bravil Mages Guild and speak with Kud-Ei inside about her missing friend.

Help Henantier

When you’re ready, have her lead on then follow her into Henantier’s house. Go upstairs and speak with her when she stops to explain the situation further.

Once you’re ready, speak with Kud-Ei and you’ll receive one final warning… do not let Henantier die in the dreams. Equip the Dreamworld Amulet then sleep in the bed next to Henantier for an hour.

When you arrive in the Dreamworld, speak with Henantier.

Test of Perception

You’ll then need to interact with the glowing door to enter the “Portal to Test of Perception”.

Immediately on the left, loot the Perceive chest to find a torch.

Equip it then follow the linear path, avoiding all the traps. At the end, you’ll find the Element of Perception. Activate it!

Test of Patience

You’ll find the “Portal to Test of Patience” behind the bed upstairs.

Once inside, interact with the Study chest and take the Mysterious Scroll.

You can follow the instructions on the mysterious scroll or simply run through all the traps. At the end of the linear path, activate the Element of Patience.

Next, head downstairs and take the first right to find the “Portal to Test of Courage”.

On the right side near some stalagmites, you’ll find the Breathe chest. Loot it to find a Weak Potion of the Sea.

Drink it then head all the way down. At the bottom of a well, you’ll find another Breathe chest containing a Weak Potion of the Sea. Drink it if need be then continue down the next well.

At the bottom, you’ll find a wooden door leading to the Grotto of Courage. Inside, you’ll find yourself on dry land again. Activate the Element of Courage.

Test of Resolve

Again, head downstairs to find the “Portal to Test of Resolve”.

Immediately on your left, you’ll spot a Prepare chest containing a whole bunch of weapons and armor.

Equip what you’d like, then proceed down the hallway to find two minotaurs. Defeat them! A ramp will then form, leading up to the Element of Resolve. Activate it!

Restore Henantier’s Sanity

Speak with Henantier to complete the quest.
