How to Start the Renegade Shadowscale Quest
To begin the Renegade Shadowscale quest in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, speak with Teinaava in the Dark Brotherhood Sanctuary. He’ll ask you to hunt down and kill Scar-Tail, a treacherous snake that has betrayed the Shadowscales. Teinaava and Ocheeva are bound by oath not to go after Scar-Tail, so they request that you do so in their stead. To get this quest, you’ll need to progress in the Dark Brotherhood until you are made a Slayer. We were on the To Serve Sithis quest when we accepted this one.
The Renegade Shadowscale Walkthrough
Find Scar-Tail
To find Scar-Tail, you must travel to Bogwater, located south of the Imperial City in Blackwood, southeast of Leyawiin. As you reach Bogwater, you’ll see that it’s a campsite and only Scar-Tail is there. He’ll know who you are and why you are there if you speak with him and ask you to spare him.
Let Scar-Tail Live
Going this route, Scar-Tail will tell you that he hid his treasure in a hollowed-out rock near his campfire. The hollowed-out rock can be found next to the wooden crate by his tent. Inside you’ll find 100 gold.
He’ll also mention that another assassin was sent to kill him, but failed, and that you could take his heart to present to Teinaava. To locate the Argonian Agent, travel west from the camp to find him on the ground next to a giant tree. You’ll then be able to loot an Argonian Heart from it.
Kill scar-Tail
If you decide to kill Scar-Tail, you can attack or talk to him first. Either way, he will put up a fight. Once he’s been cut down, make sure to grab his heart. You can also collect the gold from his hollowed-out rock, next to the wooden crate by the tent.
Return to Teinaava
Return to Teinaava in the Dark Brotherhood Sanctuary to deliver the heart. He’ll accept it (regardless of which one you present), which will complete the quest. You’ll be rewarded with the Boots of Bloody Bounding, which have the effects of Fortify Acrobatics on Self and Fortify Blade on Self.
