How to Start the A Brotherhood Betrayed Quest
To start this quest, you’ll need to travel to Bruma in the northern part of Cyrodiil, north of the Imperial City. Once there, enter Bradon Lirrian’s house on the west side of the Great Chapel of Talos to the left of the stairs. Inside, you’ll then want to speak with Carius Ruenllius to begin the quest.
A Brotherhood Betrayed Quest Walkthrough
Learn What Happened
To learn the details of what’s happening, you’ll need to persuade Carius to tell you by raising his disposition to 70. You can do this by selecting the options he likes when that portion is filled with the most bars and selecting the ones he dislikes when they are the smallest. Your score will carry over each game, so keep going until his disposition hits 70.
To know which options he likes or dislikes, select the option that has one bar. Once you click it, the one bar will rotate to the right. Again, select the one bar. Keep doing this until you’ve selected all the options using the one bar. The second time you start, the bars will be lit up green, yellow, brown, or red. He loves the green, likes the yellow, dislikes the brown and hates the red.
Alternatively, you can also pay gold to increase his disposition.
Once you’ve persuaded him to spill the beans, he’ll tell you that Bradon was a vampire who was slain by the vampire hunter, Raynil. He will then review all the related details that he has uncovered so far.
After you’ve finished speaking with him, talk to Erline Lirrian, who can be found nearby in the house. She’ll ask for your help, claiming that her husband was not a vampire. Finish listening to her and then exhaust all of her dialog options.
Tracking Down Raynil
Head over to the north side of the Great Chapel of Talos and locate Olav’s Tap and Tack. Head inside and speak with Olav, asking about Bradon Lirrian and Raynil Drala. He’ll tell you about Bradon, but won’t provide any details on Raynil. To get him talking, you’ll need to raise his disposition to 70. If you reach the max level and it’s not quite at 70, you can bribe him with gold to get it the rest of the way.
Now that you’re friends, Olav will tell you that Raynil is staying in the last room on the right at the top of the stairs and give you the key for it. Head up the stairs on the left of the fireplace then go to the last door on the right. Use the key to open it and then head inside.
Investigate the Room
Now that you’re in Raynil’s room, it’s time to turn it inside out! Or, you can just look behind the dresser on the right side of the room to find Gelebourne’s Journal. Take it!

Upon reading it, we’ll learn the truth about Bradon and why Raynil killed him. With this information, return to Olav and ask him about Gelebourne.
Report Your Results
Return to Bradon Lirrian’s house and speak with Carius there to bring him up to speed with what we’ve learned. Select the three new dialog options, which will spur Carius to action. He’ll tell you to meet him at Olav’s Tap and Tack in one hour.
Head over to the Tap and Tack then use the wait feature to progress time by one hour. Go inside to begin speaking with Carius. He’ll tell you that they saw Raynil heading west towards a cave. Carius concludes that it has to be Boreal Stone Cave and asks that you pursue and deal with Raynil.
Carius will tell you that you only have one day to catch Raynil before he escapes. You’ll want to make sure to do this quest right away so that you don’t fail it.
Bring Raynil to Justice

Exit Bruma and head west to reach the Boreal Stone Cave. When you arrive, head inside to be greeted by Raynil Dralas. He’ll refuse to surrender, forcing you to cut him down in self-defense. Once slain, loot the three keys from him and use them to open the nearby waterlogged chest. Loot the Mundane Amulet inside.

Deliver the Amulet
Once you have the amulet, return to Bradon Lirrian’s House and speak with Erline Lirrian. The quest will then end and you’ll receive the Phylactery of Litheness, a necklace that has the Fortify Speed on Self effect.
