How to Start the Message from Afar Quest
The Message from Afar main story quest in Avowed will automatically begin after completing the On Strange Shores quest.
Message from Afar Walkthrough
You sailed to the Living Lands in order to deliver an important missive from the emperor of Aedyr. First, make your way into the port city of Paradis, a rugged coastal settlement and home to the Aedyran embassy. Then find the ambassador and complete your task.
Speak with Captain Cynric
Upon arriving at the Paradis docks, speak with Garryck and Illora (if you saved her) to see what their plans are. Afterwards, proceed down the docks and speak with Militia Captain Cynric for your warm greeting. During the conversation, you’ll also meet Kai, who is looking for the claviger. He’ll then ask to partner up with you!
Find the Strangleroot
To reach the Strangleroot, which is in the northwestern part of Dawnshore, you’ll need to pass through Ivona’s Threshold and continue heading north. If you stop in at Ivona’s Threshold Party Camp along the way, you can speak with Malthea nearby and ask her about the ambassador. She will be standing guard along the main road.
When you arrive at the Strangleroot Beacon in the Overgrown Frontier, head northwest down the path through the trees.
On the left near the stone wall, loot the body leaning against the wall to receive the Dirt-Speckled Amulet.
Find the Aedyran Ambassador in the Strangleroot
Next, use Kai’s Firestarter Command to clear the bramble. Thoroughly explore this area, as there are a few chests behind the bramble and breakable wooden boards, and be mindful of all the bears here!
Whenever you are ready, destroy the bramble in the central part of the area to continue forward until you reach the ambassador next to a campfire.
Kill the Afflicted Bear
After speaking with him, investigate the corpse of the nearby Claviger and read the letter next to him. Afterwards, head inside the next room to take on the Dreamthrall Elder Brown Bear. During the fight, the boss bear will mainly charge at you and spit a poisonous acid your way.
Once you take down the bear, loot the soldier the bear was snacking on to get the Unflinching Duty unique shield and some other items. When you are ready, speak with the Ambassador.
Examine the Adra Pillar
Next, interact with the giant green crystal to hear The Voice again.
Leave the Strangleroot
After your conversation, leave the Strangleroot via the path shown by the objective marker.
Enter the City of Paradis
Once out of the Strangleroot, make use of the party camp! Afterwards, travel down to Paradis and enter the city, where a cutscene will trigger. When it completes, the quest will end.
