How to Start the Heart of Valor Quest
To begin the Heart of Valor side quest in Avowed, speak with Chiko on the northwestern side of the Residential District.
Heart of Valor Walkthrough
Chiko asked you to meet their elderly uncle, Keipo, a Shatterscarp legend who slew a fearsome leviathan. Chiko believes Keipo has been feeling his age. Talking to a fellow adventurer could be just the thing he needs.
Speak to Keipo
To find Keipo, travel to his home on the northeast side of Thirdborn and speak with him inside.
Go to the Sand Sea Ruins
Next, travel to the Sand Sea Ruins in the southeastern part of the Shatterscarp. Once there, you’ll discover that the main entrance is barred. To get inside, head to the left of the barred door and work your way up to the main chamber, using the wooden platforms. At the top, drop down into the heart of the ruins.
As you descend, loot the Agate Eye, the totem fragment.
Find the Heart of the Leviathan
When you enter the ruins, unbar the main door and then head through the doorway nearby to find a letter with a note next to it that says, “Do not pull the lever under any circumstances.” Expect to take some damage, but pull it anyway to get the “That Sign Can’t Stop Me Because I Can’t Read” trophy!
Pull the lever on the other side of the room to summon the lift. When you reach the bottom, head forward and drop down to the ledge below. Turn around and destroy the boards to find a generator. Hit it with electricity, causing a door to open. Enemies will pour out, too, so take care of them.
Climb back up to the ledge, then jump across the hanging things to reach the ledge on the northern side of the room.
On the other side, take a right, sneaking past the traps. Alternately, climb up the nearby wooden ledge to avoid the traps.
In the next room, you’ll have to deal with a bunch of enemies. Do so, then head to the southeastern part of the room. Jump into the water and follow it to the Dirty Brown Key.
Head back through the water, look for the switch on the wall (circle button on the right side of the picture below), and press it. This will open a hidden door to the right of the switch. Inside, you’ll find The Desert’s Bounty, a unique shield.
Next, you’ll need to climb on up and head to the southeastern side of the room using the ledges. There, you’ll be able to use the Dirty Brown Key to open the door. You’ll see a walkway with a bunch of flames shooting down from it. Drop down to the right side, then follow the path to reach some wooden planks with potions in front of a broken boat. Next to them on the bench, you’ll find Umpara’s Promise, a unique amulet.
In this room, grab the Heart of the Leviathan.
Return to Keipo with the Heart of the Leviathan
After you grab the heart, you’ll notice two horns sticking out of the ground. Press the switch on the left horn to open the door. Head inside and read the journal, then exit the ruins. On your way out, Chiko will stop you.
When speaking with Chiko, tell him, “We can’t make any decisions until we talk to him.” Afterward, return to Keipo.
The “best decision” is to not give Keipo the Heart of the Leviathan, tell Keipo that you won’t reveal his secret about Umpara, and lie about what happened to Umpara to Chiko and Tira Nui. Going this route will net you all the unique items!
Afterward, the Heart of Valor quest will complete!
