How to Start the Great Expectations Quest
To begin the Great Expectations quest in Octopath Traveler 0, speak with the librarian in Theatropolis after completing the Bestower of Fame: Ch. 3 – Ceraphina the Charitable quest.
Great Expectations Walkthrough
After deciphering an ancient text, Alexia makes her way to Berecain to uncover the truth.
Head to Berecain
Once in Berecain, enter the tavern and speak with the person on the right side of the room. Next, use the Purchase Path Action to acquire the Crimson Stone from the Berecain Orphan.
Head to the Forbidden Temple
Afterwards, make your way to the Forbidden Temple. When you arrive, make your way to the room on the northern side of the Forbidden Temple: Lower Floor, where you would have fought the Towering Idol. Once the cutscene ends, you’ll take on two Forbidden Magic Guardians.

Following the fight, you’ll receive the Bernstein Records and a Commemorative Coin. The quest will then complete!
