Help Oskar escape

We joined the Zhentarim in the Find the Missing Shipment quest and were able to speak with Brem. He has a slave who will sell you for 1000 gold. You can talk him down to 600 if you pass a skill check.

After paying the money, speak with Oskar, who can be found nearby, to learn his story. He will then head off to Baldur’s Gate.

To progress this quest, you’ll need to reach the Lower City of Baldur’s Gate which isn’t until Act III.

Look for Oskar in Baldur’s Gate

Once you arrive in Lower City, make your way to Lady Jannath’s Estate on the city’s western side. You’ll be stopped by Tarhun Mnemonis, who will ask that you not enter the estate but also mentions that he won’t stop you as he is on vacation. Head inside once you’ve finished talking to him.

Find out what’s haunting the Jannath Estate

Make your way upstairs to trigger turn-based mode (it happens as stuff comes flying at you). After this occurs, focus on the Golden Candelabrum on the third floor. You’ll want to attack it, reducing hits HP to 0. This will cause a Tormented Soul to appear. Defeat it!

Incapacitate Oskar

Head up to the master bedroom on the third floor. This will trigger an event resulting in you having to subdue Oskar. Make sure to toggle on non-lethal mode so that you knock him out. Speak with Lady Jannath afterward to learn more about the situation. Also, make sure to loot the key off of Oskar.

Explore the Jannath Estate

To save Oskar, you’ll need to head up into the atelier. The stairwell leading up there can be found just next to the entrance of the master bedroom.

Along the way up, you’ll have cursed skulls and more candles to deal with. To remove the skulls, you’ll want to cast Remove Curse on them or hit them with fire magic like a fireball.

Investigate the Atelier in the Jannath Estate

Once you reach the atelier, you’ll need to grab Oskar Fevras’s painting off the ground and combine it with the easel to open a hidden door across from the painting.

Inside, you’ll find the painting of a smiling maiden, who happens to be Oskar’s late wife. Read the Letter to Oskar Fervas in the chest behind the painting to learn that Mystic Carrion helped Oksar with what he was working on.

Talk to Mystic Carrion about Oskar

To find Mystic Carrion, travel to Philgrave Mansion, located south of Sorcerous Sundries in the eastern part of Lower City. Head inside to trigger a cutscene with Mystic Carrion. Mention Oskar, and you’ll have a choice to either pay 3,000 gold or complete Carrion’s Find Mystic Carrion’s Servant quest to receive the Torch of Revocation.

Confront the spirit of Kerri Evenfield

Once you have the torch, return to the painting and use it to set it ablaze! Make sure to equip it first!

Kerri’s spirit will now be freed from the painting and sets out in search of Oskar. Follow her down to the master bedroom for a cutscene, where Kerri will claim she is taking Oskar home with her, leading to a couple of options. You can attack Kerri, let her take Oksar, or use persuasion/intimidation to get her to stand down.

Persuade/Intimidate Kerri to Leave

Choosing to Persuade or Intimidate Kerri will make her back off. You’ll then get a second check where you can learn that she killed herself because she was unhappy with everything and that it wasn’t Oksar’s fault. She will even go as far as to admit what they had was only a fling. She’ll then leave, which is when Oskar apologizes to Lady Jannath. You’ll then be able to follow him up to the atelier. Speak with him there to finally complete the Free the Artist quest!
