Welcome to NGB and our Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 area guide on exploring Inside the Monolith! In this guide, we’ll cover everything you need to know, from collectibles to side quests. Whether you’re aiming for 100% completion or just want to make sure you don’t miss anything, we’ve got you covered!

Inside the Monolith Area Collectibles & Noteworthy Tasks
Entrance
Colour of Lumina
Follow along the main path until you reach the waterfall. The lumina will be on the ground near a group of enemies.
Paint Cage
Continue following along the path until you reach the section where the color turns black and white. When the colour comes back, take a left to reach a rock ledge and take the rope down. Straight ahead, you’ll see another rope. Use it to go down further, bringing you to the paint cage. You’ll receive a Revie Tint Shard from the paint cage.
- First Key – At the bottom of the rope, take a left to find it
- Second Key – Look up and to the left from the top one to find it on the same object
- Third Key – On the other side of the rock, next to the paint cage
Inside the Monolith – Tainted Meadows
Colour of Lumina
Starting at the rest point, head across the bridge, down the hill on the right, and then take a left at the bottom. Head to the ledge to find a path on the left. Follow it and drop the area below to find the lumina.

Head back to the hill from before, but instead of turning left, keep going straight. This will bring you to some giant statues with the lumina in the middle of them.
Mistra the Merchant
Continue following the main path until you reach the second area where the color turns black and white. Just past that, you’ll be in an underwater area. Stick to the left path, taking the next left through a path covered in seaweed, bringing you to the merchant.
You can purchase the Fragaro weapon for Monaco and the Veremum weapon for Maelle. If you challenge and defeat the merchant, you can purchase the Energising Cleanse Pictos.
Resplendent Chroma Catalyst
From the merchant, exit the path and take a left. Straight in front of you will be two rocks jetting out of the ground, kind of like a V. Head between them and take a left to snag the catalyst.
Tainted Waters
Colour of Lumina
From the rest point where the main path has you going left, you want to go straight, dropping down the ledge that the flag is on. You’ll pass one group of enemies, then follow the path with a Nevron holding a mine.
Just past it on the left, you should see the golden frame of a ship. Climb under the broken section on the left and then look to the right. Destroy the stack of crates there to find the lumina.
Resplendent Chroma Catalyst
Back at the rest point, follow the main path to the left. As the path starts to curve right, look on the right, behind the giant golden rock with a cross on top, to find the catalyst.
Chromatic Bourgeon
Back where the main path curved right, across from where you are now, you’ll see the frame of a wrecked ship filled with a whole bunch of seaweed. Head through that ship to reach a grapple point.
You’ll then want to grapple twice to reach the Chromatic Borgeon. For defeating this Chromatic Nevron, you’ll receive the Bourgeon weapon for Sciel, a Bourgeon Skin, 2 Resplendent Chroma Catalysts, and 5 Color of Luminas.
Stay Marked Pictos
The pictos can be found on the ground, right behind where the Bourgeon was standing.
Inside the Monolith – Tainted Sanctuary
Colour of Lumina
From the rest point, follow the path past the two statues. Do not go to the path they guard. This lumina will be in an old crate to the right of a giant hand.

At the rest point, follow the main path through the two giant Gestral statues. You’ll then have to pass a group of enemies reaching another path with giant Gestral statues lining both sides of the path. This lumina will be just before that path on the left.
2130 Chroma
After you pass through the path with the Gestral statues lined on both sides, you’ll come to an open area with a tall tower-like structure in the center. The chroma can be found on the back side of the tower.
Resplendent Chroma Catalyst
When facing the tower, with the way you can from behind you, take the right path. In the middle of it, you see this catalyst on the left.
Paint Cage
Along the main path, just before heading to the next area, there will be an area you can crouch under on the left. Head through it and follow the path to reach the paint cage. You’ll receive a Random Defense Pictos for destroying all of the keys.
- First Key – Found on top of the tower
- Second Key – Across from the first key, to the right of where the paint cage is, behind a statue
- Third Key – On the path leading to the paint cage under a paint spike
Tainted Cliffs
Resplendent Chroma Catalyst
Starting at the rest point, head up the stairs just past it. When you reach the top, look to the right to spot this catalyst on the ledge overlooking the area.
4260 Chroma
This chroma will be along the main path after using the grapple point.
2130 Chroma
After the section of the area where the color fades to black and white, you’ll want to look on the right to spot a trio of Nevrons standing around this chroma.
Petank
This Petank can be found just past the above chroma. It will be next to a windmill on the right side of the main path. You’ll be rewarded with 5 Resplendent Chroma Catalysts, 1 Recoat, and 5 Colour of Luminas for defeating it. The trick with this one is that you’ll want to shoot the green orb that will teleport around during combat. This will deal more damage to the Petank than attacking it directly.
Colour of Lumina
You can collect this lumina from behind the windmill where you found the Petank.
Recoat
Behind the windmill, you’ll see a platform with a grapple point. If you grapple from platform to platform, you’ll end up at a tower. The recoat is behind the tower, resting on the ground.
4260 Chroma
You’ll come to a stone monument just past the windmill on the main path. The chroma can be found on the ground in front of it.
Mime
To the left of the monument, you’ll find a rope leading down into a hole. Use it to reach a cave where Mime and its allies, Clair and Obscur, await you! Defeat them to receive the Voluminous haircut for Maelle.
Weakness Gain Pictos
In the last part of this area, where you’ll head past giant black rocks into a share, the picots can be found behind the black rock on the right.
2130 Chroma
The chroma can be found on a ledge past the left black rock.
Inside the Monolith – Tainted Battlefield
Resplendent Chroma Catalyst
You can find this catalyst just before the rest point.
Colour of Lumina
Starting at the rest point, head up the wooden bridge and look down to the right by the wheel to spot this lumina.

Back at the rest point, cross the bridge and drop down the ledge at the end. Take a right, heading past the leaning metal cylinder. You’ll then take another right and follow the path to the end to reach the lumina.
2130 Chroma
Head back to the ledge near the bridge coming from the rest point. From there, head left with the ledge behind you to spot a rope. Use it to reach an upper level where you can find the chroma.

Follow along the main path until you reach the end of the area, just past the Clair enemy. There will be an open gate leading you to the next area. Just before that gate, you’ll find this lumina on the left.
2130 Chroma
This chroma can be found on the opposite side of the path as the above lumina, behind a cannon.
Door to the Manor
After you pass the battlefield area, you’ll come to a gravesite. Take the path on the left to enter a cave. Follow that tunnel to the end, where you’ll find the Manor door. Head inside to find the L’Amour D’une Mere music record and the Aline journal in the Manor greenhouse.
Tainted Hearts
Paint Cage
Starting at the rest point, travel through the train station. Once you reach the other side, take the left to reach a giant rock Nevron. On the left of it, there will be a grapple point on a ledge in the distance. Grapple to it and then follow the path to reach the paint cage. You’ll receive the Empowering Parry Picots if you destroy all of the keys.
- First Key – Along the path leading to the paint cage
- Second Key – On the train above the paint cage
- Third Key – Side of the ledge toward the ledge you at the end of the path
Nelson the Merchant
Head back to the giant Nevron and take the path to the right (when looking at it face to face). You’ll find a rock wall there that you can climb up. The merchant will be at the top. You can purchase a Healing Tint Shard from him. If you defeat the merchant, you can also buy the Garganon weapon for Sciel and the Greater Defenceless Pictos from him.
Enfeebling Attack Picots
This picots will be on the ground next to a train car, just past the merchant.
Colour of Lumina
Head back to the train station and with it behind you, follow the path to the right. Follow the ledge behind the giant statue to reach this lumina.
4260 Chroma
Continue heading right from the above lumina to reach this chroma. It will be in a bed of red flowers.

After fighting the Obscur enemy towards the end of the area, you’ll head through an archway. Take a left and find this lumina near a pillar.
Inside the Monolith – Tainted Lumiere
Recoat
In the plaza with the giant fountain and flowers, head to the northwest side of the fountain (where you came from, being south) to find the redcoat behind some covered crates.
Colour of Lumina
Continue until you reach the area where the colour fades to black and white. When the Colour returns, take a left and keep hugging the left wall. This will bring you between two buildings and a ledge with a harp. The lumina can be found on the ground, next to the harp.
4260 Chroma
From the area with the harp, you’ll want to swing left and look to the right. You should spot an enemy at the top of some stairs. The chroma is just past her on the ground to the left.

In the next area, you’ll come to a courtyard with a giant tree in the center. To the right of the tree, you’ll find an alleyway. Enter the alley to find the lumina.
Colour of Lumina and Journal – Expedition 70 – Inside the Monolith
Straight ahead in the alley, you’ll see a grapple point. Use it, and then the next grapple point will bring you to a group of enemies. Defeat them, then continue following the path.
You’ll find the journal and lumina at the end.
Colour of Lumina
Backtrack to the courtyard with the tree. When you arrive, head north, passing through a golden tunnel. When you emerge on the other side, take a left and follow the path until it splits. Take the left one past all the tables to find the lumina.
Clair Obscur
Head back to the split and take the right path. You’ll see a grapple point on the adjacent platform at the end. Head over there and follow the path to the left. This will bring you to the Clair Obscur enemy, accompanied by a Clair and Obscur Nevron.
You’ll want to wait until their swords glow to parry or dodge their attacks. For defeating it, you’ll receive the Dreameso weapon for Verso and the Breaking Attack Pictos along with 2 Resplendent Chroma Catalysts and 5 Colour of Lumina.
Lithelim
You can find this weapon for Lune just past the Clair Obscur.
Resplendent Chroma Catalyst
Continue following the main path until you reach the golden fountain. The steps beyond it lead to the next rest point. Take a right towards the boat in the distance. When you reach it, take a left to find the catalyst, guarded by enemies.
Tower Peak
Past this rest point, there are no collectibles. All that’s left now is the paintress and maybe one other person! Good Luck, Expeditioners!
