How to Start the Bestower of Power: Ch. 1: The One That Lays Waste Quest
The Bestower of Power: Ch. 1: The One That Lays Waste quest in Octopath Traveler 0 will automatically begin after completing the Bestower of Power: Prologue Empress from Abroad quest. The recommended level for this quest is 36.
Bestower of Power: Ch. 1: The One That Lays Waste Walkthrough
An emissary from G’roha, a powerful empire to the west, has declared war on the entire continent of Orsterra. Alaune and the other leaders of nations now rally their troops to fight for their realm.
Talk to Marianne of the Kingsguard
To officially begin this quest, speak with Marianne outside the castle in the Castle Edoras Gate area. During the cutscene, agree to escort the queen to Donescu.
Head to Donescu Castle
Next, travel to Donescu in the Riverlands Region. To reach this area, you’ll need to pass through the following:
Once you arrive, head north and enter Donescu Castle. Inside, speak with King Dudek in the throne room.
Speak to Alaune
After you’ve prepared, speak with Queen Alaune on the roof of the castle and agree to fight alongside Alaune.
Head to Cyphlo Banks
Next, leave town and head to the East Cyphlo Banks. From there, travel west into the Cyphlo Banks area. On the western side of this area, you’ll find Alaune—speak with her to meet Empress Tatloch.
The negotiations quickly fall apart, triggering a battle against multiple waves of enemies.

The fight unfolds in three waves. First, you’ll face two Cavalry (Bow) units. Next, two Cavalry (Polearm) enemies will appear. Finally, the battle culminates with Captain Na’gu, supported by one Cavalry (Bow) and one Cavalry (Polearm).
Boss Fight: Empress Tatloch
Once you’ve dealt with Captain Na’gu, a cutscene will trigger, leading to a boss fight against Empress Tatloch herself.

During the fight, she will continually summon the cavalry. Besides using them to fight, she will also drain their health to 0 to restore her own. Once you break her shield, a cutscene will trigger during which you’ll flee and the chapter will end.
