How to Start the Below the Surface Quest
To begin the Below the Surface side mission in Borderlands 4, speak with Ted just south of the No Escape Room in the Terminus District.
How to Complete the Below the Surface Quest
Ted, a victimized test subject who escaped from an underwater Order Research Facility, needs help to put an end to the scientists’ cruel and unethical experimentation. Something has gone horribly wrong in the facility, and it’s up to you to discover the nature of the experiments as well as Ted’s true motivation.
Use key card to access lab
After accepting the mission, take the key card from Ted then head northeast and use it to open the door.
Enter lab
Once inside the lab, approach the elevator switch.
Reach facility’s sub-level access
In the room with the switch, pull the grate down using your grapple to reveal a vent.
Follow it to reach an elevator shaft. Jump down!
Reach labs
After emerging from the tunnel via a ladder, listen to the ECHO Log at the top.
Next, continue forward. Use a square hole near the bathroom to reach the next ECHO Log in a room.
After opening the door, you’ll find a room filled with Kratch. Take an immediate left to find the next ECHO Log on a broken window.
Reactivate elevator
In the room with the purple cylinder in the middle, push the button in the red-lit corner, then kill the Vile experiments below. When clear, speak with Ted. Since things didn’t go as planned, eliminate what Ted has become! Afterward, loot the PF94_Ted’s Return log from where he falls.
Reach elevator
Follow the path deeper into the facility to reach the elevator. Before activating it, grab the ECHO Log next to the corpse across from the lever.
When you’re ready, pull the lever to reach the top.
Leave the facility
Exit to the outside to complete this mission.
