To begin the An Encounter with Xerc quest in Octopath Traveler 0, speak with Xerc at Grandport Markets after completing the Bestower of Power: Ch. 2 To Protect What is Dear quest.
An Encounter with Xerc Walkthrough
The scholar Xerc is willing to spend whatever it takes for his soulstone research, much to the dismay of his assistant, Athessa – the one responsible for procuring the funds. Now he has his sights set on a certain item at auction.
Speak to Xerc
To officially begin the quest, enter the Grandport Bazaar, speak with Xerc inside, and agree to hand over the 10,000 leaves.
Search for Xerc’s assistant
Follow Athessa south to Grandport Markets. From there, take the southeastern exit to reach Grandport: Estate Entrance. Keep heading east to encounter Athessa and the person who purchased the soulstone.

After the fight, Xerc will become your companion and a resident of Wishvale! In addition, you’ll receive a Rainbow Soulstone!!
Xerc is a scholar who commands both ice and wind. He learns a support skill that increases damage done by soulstones. In addition, he uses the tome and staff as weapons and has the following battle skills:
- Icewind – Unleash an ice attack on all foes
- Tornado – Unleash a wind attack on all foes
