How to Start the An Encounter with Alfyn Quest
To begin the An Encounter with Alfyn quest in Octopath Traveler 0, walk along the main path on the northeastern side of the Path to Waterpool Caves in the Riverlands Region to trigger a cutscene where you’ll meet Alfyn, an apothecary.
An Encounter with Alfyn Walkthrough
An unlucky encounter has you covered in poison. Just then, Alfyn appears and extends an invitation to his home in Clearbrook where he says he can offer treatment.
Head to Alfyn’s house
Exit the current building and head west through Clearbrook, crossing over the bridge. Enter the house on the north side to trigger a cutscene with Alfyn. During which, you’ll end up offering to travel with Alfyn to the Frostlands so that he can collect some medicinal herbs.
Head to Flamesgrace Wilds
When you’re ready to set out, travel to the Flamesgrace Wilds, just before Flamesgrace. Head to the save point in the center of the area, then go south from there to reach the area that Alyfn in search of. This will trigger a cutscene leading to a mini-boss fight against some monsters!

After the fight, you’ll receive some Snowgrass Root.
Head to Alfyn’s house
Once you gain control, return to Clearbrook and enter Alfyn’s house to trigger a cutscene. When the cutscene ends, the quest will complete and Alfyn will then become a companion and resident of Wishvale!
Alfyn is an apothecary who can heal allies and dispatch enemies. He uses an axe and tome as weapons. In addition, he has the following battle skills:
- First Aid – Restore HP of an ally
- Icicle – Unleash an ice attack on a foe
