Pokémon Specialties Guide

Pokémon Specialties

Each Pokémon has a specialty. You can see a Pokémon’s specialty in the Pokédex, which you can access via the + menu. When you travel with a Pokémon, they’ll help you out in various ways. If you stand in front of something you need help with, the Pokémon with you will use their specialty to try to help you out.

Appraise Specialty

If you show a lost relic to Professor Tangrowth, who has the Appraise specialty, they can tell you what kind of item you’ve found.

Build Specialty

Pokémon with the Build specialty will lead other Pokémon when building or remodeling structures. You can’t build anything without a leader Pokémon.

A certain Pokémon will take you to a Dream Island if you bring them a doll. Once you’ve visited a Dream Island at least once, you can get that Pokémon to come to you by interacting with a doll.

If you speak to a Pokémon with the Fly specialty while you’re using the Pokédex to search for another Pokémon, they can take you to that Pokémon’s location. To search for a Pokémon, select it in your Pokédex, then press + to start searching.

Gather Specialty

Pokémon with the Gather specialty will pick up items on the ground and put them inside a community box.

If you give honey to a Pokémon with the Gather Honey specialty, they’ll give you furniture with special patterns in exchange.

Pokémon with the Generate specialty can power machines with electricity.

Grow Specialty

Pokémon with the Grow specialty will use their free time to help nearby plants mature faster. If you bring a Pokémon with this skill to a plant, they will help grow it for you! Plants such as tomatoes won’t grow unless they’re watered, even if a Pokémon that specializes in growing is with you. Use a Water Gun or something similar to water your plants first, then ask a Pokémon to help you grow them!

Pokémon with the Hype specialty will start dancing when they hear music, improving the mood.

Litter Specialty

Pokémon with the Litter specialty will sometimes drop useful items near their home. Items dropped in this way vary depending on the Pokémon. Pokémon will not drop items while you’re watching them. Leave them alone and check on them later.

If you hold the Dowsing Machine and press A while walking with a Pokémon who has the Search specialty, you’ll start looking for buried items.

Storage Specialty

Pokémon with the Storage specialty can hold items for you. Just tell one of these Pokémon, “I wanna check my storage,” to add items to or remove items from their inventory. If you use a workbench while accompanied by a Pokémon that is holding items for you, you can use any crafting materials they are holding directly from their inventory.

Trade Specialty

Pokémon with the Trade specialty may start barter exchanges at places where bartering is possible. Just set a cash register on a table and supply it with power! You can trade items you own for items you want. Offer up to five items to the Pokémon you’re trading with to convince them to make a trade. Offering items they like will make trading more likely to succeed!

Water Specialty

Pokémon with the Water specialty will use nearby water basins you’ve filled to water surrounding plants. Offer food at a Rain Dance Site and bring a Pokémon with the Water specialty there to have them throw a Rain Dance party, which will increase the humidity of the area.
