How to Start the May the Best Thief Win Quest
You’ll begin the May the Best Thief Win quest in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered automatically after completing the Finding the Thieves Guild quest.
May the Best Thief Win Walkthrough
As instructed by Armand Christophe, your task is to steal the diary of Amantius Allectus before Methredhel and Amusei and bring it back to him. You’ll need to complete this task without killing either Amantius or any of your competitors.
Steal Amantius Allectus’ Dairy
In this section, you can also find a beggar to speak with, but it will waste time. The one we used was sleeping in an alley behind Marana Rian’s House in the northwestern part of the area. Ask them about Amantius Allectus and offer to pay them five coins. They should then tell you that Amantius lives in the Temple district on the far east side. You’ll also learn that he is an early riser and usually is up by sunrise.
Enter the Temple District from the Waterfront, then take a right and follow the path along the alley and wall to the end. You’ll then want to take a left and keep going until you reach the part where the main path runs through the alley. The last house on the left will be Amantius’.
You’ll need to pick the lock to head inside. Once you do, look to the right of the living room to find a weird-looking desk against the wall. Interact with it to retrieve the diary. If you are not quick, then Methredhel will beat you to the diary. If that happens, you’ll need to steal the diary from her without killing her. She has a house in the Waterfront, near where you met Armand, that she can appear in.
Deliver the Diary to Armand Chrisophe
Now that you have the diary, return to Armand in the Waterfront area and speak with him. Choose the “Thieves Guild Test” option to hand it over, thus earning you a place in the Thieves Guild! This will complete the May the Best Thief Win quest, while also starting the Independent Thievery quest.
