How to Start the Pinching the Pupa Side Quest
To begin the Pinching the Pupa side quest in The Outer Worlds 2, you’ll need to travel to Fort Endurance in the northern part of Golden Ridge.
Once there, head inside and speak with Trooper Wentworth. They’ll request the commander to retrieve a pupa from a nearby Mantisaur Nest and bring it back to one of them!
While speaking with Bradford, if you have Speech 5, you can convince her to give you an extra reward in the form of bits if you give the pupa to her.
Pinching the Pupa Walkthrough
Retrieve the Pupa
Travel to the Mantisaur Nest, located southeast of Fort Endurance, and head inside, where you’ll need to fight your way through numerous mantisaurs.
Along the way, make sure to keep an eye out for a High Security Lockbox! It will be in the area just before the pupa.
In the nest, you’ll find the corpse of Sergeant Kelvin. Read the message next to him to learn of his final moments! If you then examine his mauled corpse and have Medical 8 or Dumb trait, you can extract the grenades.
To find the pupa, head to the far southeastern part of the area, where you’ll find it next to a giant teal crystal.
After you reach the Zyranium Mantisaur Pupa and pick it up, you’ll be attacked by more manistaurs that will keep spawning as you backtrack through the nest.
Return the Pupa
Once you have the pupa, head back to Fort Endurance, where you’ll have a decision to make on who to give the Pupa to: Wentworth or Bradford.
Trooper Wentworth
By giving the pupa to Trooper Wentworth, he’ll say he plans to use it to breed a mantisaur army…or so he thought. Wotjek will instead eat the pupa as a snack, ruining the plan! You will receive Cleo’s The Hunt (shotgun).
After the attack on the fort, speaking with Trooper Wentworth, who will confirm that he cannot actually communicate with the mantisaur.
Biologist Bradford
If you give the pupa to Bradford, she’ll thank you and reward you with Cleo’s The Hunt (shotgun), along with an extra 1,000 bits if you convinced her using your Speech skill.
Help Defend Fort Endurance
Head to the entrance of Fort Endurance to help the corporate troopers fight off the attacking mantisaur. If either Trooper Wentworth or Biologist Bradford dies during the attack, then you will fail this quest.
Once all of the mantisaur have been taken care of, the quest will be completed.
