How to Start From the Ground Up

After completing the Hylian Homeowner quest, speak to Hudson in Hateno Village by the tree next to Link’s house. He’ll mention he’s heading north to the Akkala Highlands to start his own town.

Travel to Lake Akkala and look for Hudson on a small island in the middle of the lake. You’ll find him at the Tarrey Town construction site, ready to begin building with your help.

Over the course of this quest, you’ll need approximately 110 bundles of wood. If you gather it all before working through the quest, this will save you a bit of time.

Building Tarrey Town From the Ground Up

Step 1: Gathering Wood

Upon speaking with Hudson and agreeing to help, he will make his first request of Lunk. You’ll need to collect 10 bundles of wood to build a place for people to live. You can chop trees or use bombs to gather wood from forests or heavily wooded areas. Some good spots can be found near Hateno Village or Akkala. Once delivered, construction will begin.

Step 2: Recruiting a Goron to Smash Boldiers

Now that you’ve brought Hudson enough wood to get started, he’ll need help breaking up boulders. The first thing that comes to mind is a Goron. Hudson will request that you recruit one to join the town, with the caveat that the Goron’s name ends with “son”, following company guidelines.

To find our Goron, you’ll need to travel to the Southern Mine in Eldin, along the main road between the Eldin Tower and Goron City. At the mine, you’ll find a Goron named Greyson. To speak with him about Tarrey Town, you’ll need to wait until night, after work is done. Greyson will be resting next to the cooking pot. Speak with him to tell the Goron about Tarrey Town. Greyson will immediately agree to join and set out with his brother, Pelison.

Return to Hudson in Tarrey Town to give him the good news. He’ll tell Link that the brothers will be a good fit for the town while also mentioning that Pelison has started selling the ore they found within the boulders.

Step 3: More Building Materials

The third task Hudson gives Link is to collect 20 more bundles of wood. He’ll be able to combine that with the materials he already has to build more houses.

Step 4: Recruiting a Tailor

For Link’s fourth task, Hudson asks for someone who’s got a gift for tailoring. For this role, he recommends finding someone among the Gerudo. And as with the Goron, you’ll need to find someone whose name ends with “son”.

To locate the Gerudo, travel to the Kara Kara Bazaar, along the main road between the Gerudo Canyon Stable and Gerudo Town. There, you’ll find Rhondson sitting under an overhang in front of the inn.

Tell her the details, and she will set out for Tarrey Town in search of love! Return to Hudson afterward to receive your next task. He’ll also mention that Rhondson opened a clothing shop.

Step 5: More Building Materials

To build even more houses, Hudson will ask Link to collect 30 more bundles of wood. Deliver them to him to receive the next task.

Step 6: Recruiting a General Store Owner

Next up, Hudson requires someone with distribution and retail experience whose name ends in “son” to get a general store up and running. With these requirements, the Rito comes to mind.

Travel to Rito Village in the Hebra region and speak with Fyson, a Rito seeking employment near a platform by the village’s entrance. He’ll tell Link that he wants to run his own story, but doesn’t want to compete with his mother for business. Mention to him that Tarrey Town needs someone to open a general store there, and he’ll be on board.

Fyson the Rito

Return to Hudson, who will thank you for finding a Rito bringing him to the town. He’ll also mention that Fyson didn’t waste any time getting the general store open.

Step 7: Even More Wood

For the next task, Hudson will request that you bring him 50 bundles of wood to finish building houses for the town.

Step 8: Recruiting a Priest

Once you deliver the wood, Hudson will inform Link that he is engaged to Rhondson. He’ll say they want to have a little ceremony to celebrate, but need someone priest-like to officiate the wedding. To that end, he suggests finding a Zora to fill the role, and as always, they will need to have a name that ends in “son”.

Travel to Zora’s Domain in the Lanayru region, then head for the bath area under the throne room. You’ll find Kapson sanding under the throne room ramp, standing by a waterfall. Speak with him and he’ll ask if you’ve met any engaged couples, saying that joining two souls is a true honor. Tell him about Hudsona and Rhondson’s upcoming wedding. Kapson will eagerly set out for Tarrey Town.

Kapson the Zora

Travel back to Tarrey Town yourself to give Hudson the good news. He’ll then ask Link for another favor.

Step 9: Invite Bolson and Karson

With wedding planning in full swing, Hudson will ask Link to invite his boss, Bolson, and co-worker Karson to the wedding. You can find them in Hateno Village, resting at the cooking pot by Link’s house during the day. Speak with Bolson, who will happily agree to attend the wedding.

Bolson

Return to Hudson to give him the good news. This will kick off the wedding Ceremony. Once it concludes, speak with Hudson once more to receive 3 Diamonds as a reward. This will also complete the From the Ground Up side quest!
