Welcome to NGB and our Fantasy Life i walkthrough for The Mercenary’s Story questline! This guide will cover everything you need to know to easily complete this quest, including how to start the mission and the steps you will need to take to finish it.

How to Start The Mercenary’s Story Questline
To begin The Mercenary’s Story questline in Fantasy Life i, select the Mercenary Life License in Eternia Village’s Guild Office.
Next, travel to the Mercenary’s Guild and Inn on the southeastern side of Eternia Village.
Inside, speak with Marcen to become a Novice.
Mercenary Life Challenges
Novice Challenges
A Warrior Lives for Battle
First, speak with Luna and Plainn on the west side of Eternia Village. Next, travel to Merina Ranch on the southwestern side of the area near the Carpenter’s Guild. There you’ll be attacked by two Corny.
Defeat the monsters then report to Marcen. You’ll then be tasked with your first bounty. Travel to the beach on the eastern side of the Capital of Mysteria.
Once there, a cutscene will trigger and you’ll learn how to charge. The scary Terror of the Tides will appear. Take out this super scary monster then report back to Marcen. The challenge will end and you’ll receive 500 Dosh.
Fledgling Challenges
A Giant Corny!
For the A Giant Corny! life challenge, you’ll need to defeat 2 Cornella as a Mercenary. These monsters can be found by the pond at the top of a waterfall west of the Capital of Mysteria.
As a reward, you’ll receive 300 Stars.
Black Sheep
For the Black Sheep life challenge, you’ll need to defeat 6 Black Woolies as a Mercenary. You can find these monsters west of the Capital of Mysteria.
As a reward, you’ll receive 100 Stars.
Feel the Power!
For the Feel the Power! life challenge, you’ll need to learn Heavy Swing I from the Skill Board and use it 20 times. As a reward, you’ll receive 50 Stars.
I Toad You So
For the I Toad You So life challenge, you’ll need to defeat 6 Tropic Toads as a Mercenary. You can find them on the northeastern beach in Eternia Village.
As a reward, you’ll receive 100 Stars.
Put Your Back Into It!
For the Put Your Back Into It life challenge, you’ll need to defeat 6 Proto Beetle Ballers as a Mercenary. You can find these monsters west of the Capital of Mysteria at night.
As a reward, you’ll receive 100 Stars.
Reptilian Rendezvous
For the Reptilian Rendezvous life challenge, you’ll need to defeat 6 Tunoco Lizards as a Mercenary. These monsters can be found southwest of the Capital of Mysteria.
As a reward, you’ll receive 100 Stars.
Watch for Wolves
For the Watch for Wolves life challenge, you’ll need to defeat 6 Red Wolves as a Mercenary. You can find these monsters west of the Capital of Mysteria at night.
As a reward, you’ll receive 100 Stars.
White Sheep
For the White Sheep life challenge, you’ll need to defeat 6 White Woolies as a Mercenary. You can find these monsters west of the Capital of Mysteria.
As a reward, you’ll receive 100 Stars.
Apprentice Challenges
A Serpentine Situation
For this life challenge, you’ll need to defeat 8 Grass Serpents as a Mercenary. These monsters can be found in Lulab Forest. Enter Lulab Forest from Idylla Village to find two in the first area of the forest.
Additionally, you’ll find some near the map transition to the center of the forest by the Old Man.
As a reward, you’ll receive 250 Stars.
Ape With an Attitude
For this life challenge, you’ll need to defeat 8 Applejack Apes as a Mercenary. These monsters can be found in Lulab Forest.
As a reward, you’ll receive 250 Stars.
Defeat the Tunoco Quetzal
For this life challenge, you’ll need to defeat 1 Tunoco Quetzal as a Mercenary. This monster can be found northwest of the Capital of Mysteria.
As a reward, you’ll receive 500 Stars.
Gorilla Warfare
For this life challenge, you’ll need to defeat 3 Applejack Gorilla as a Mercenary. These monsters can be found in Lulab Forest.
As a reward, you’ll receive 350 Stars.
Killer Weed Killing
For this life challenge, you’ll need to defeat 3 Killer Weedlings as a Mercenary. These monsters can be found in Lulab Forest during the day.
As a reward, you’ll receive 350 Stars.
Like a Woodcutter
For this life challenge, you’ll need to defeat 8 Psudo Oak as a Mercenary. These monsters can be found in Lulab Forest.
To find them, enter the forest from the Valley of Spirits. Once inside, head north to the next circle area then head east and go all the way to the south. There you’ll find the Pseudo Oaks. As a reward, you’ll receive 250 Stars.
Meer-ly an Obstacle
For this life challenge, you’ll need to defeat 8 Cashmeer as a Mercenary. These monsters can be found in Lulab Forest.
When you enter the forest from the Valley of Spirits, head west and they will be in the same area as the Goldmeer boss. As a reward, you’ll receive 250 Stars.
Strike the Earth
For this life challenge, you’ll need to use the Earthquake skill 20 times. As a reward, you’ll receive 150 Stars.
That’s No Carrot
For this life challenge, you’ll need to defeat 8 Carroty as a Mercenary. These monsters can be found in Lulab Forest.
As a reward, you’ll receive 250 Stars.
Adept Challenges
A Rather Large Lizard
For this life challenge, you’ll need to defeat 3 Greater Sandzard as a Mercenary. You can find these monsters in Da Finci Cave. As a reward, you’ll receive 500 Stars.
Defeat the Prairie Dragon
For this life challenge, you’ll need to defeat 1 Prairie Dragon as a Mercenary. You can find these monsters in Luluab Forest on Faraway Island. As a reward, you’ll receive 700 Stars.
Lizard Slicer
For this life challenge, you’ll need to defeat 10 Sandzard as a Mercenary. You can find these monsters in the Tropica Isles. As a reward, you’ll receive 350 Stars.
More Power
For this life challenge, you’ll need to use Super Charge 20 times as a Mercenary. As a reward, you’ll receive 250 Stars.
Outrun the Runner
For this life challenge, you’ll need to defeat 10 White Runners as a Mercenary. You can find these monsters in Da Finci Cave. As a reward, you’ll receive 350 Stars.
Rollin’ Large
For this life challenge, you’ll need to defeat 3 Greater Sea Beetle Baller as a Mercenary. You can find these monsters in Yohoho Cavern. As a reward, you’ll receive 500 Stars.
That’s No Radish
For this life challenge, you’ll need to defeat 10 Frosty Radishy as a Mercenary. You can find these monsters in Yohoho Cavern. As a reward, you’ll receive 350 Stars.
That’s No Star
For this life challenge, you’ll need to defeat 10 Stelleroids as a Mercenary. You can find these monsters in the Tropica Isles. As a reward, you’ll receive 350 Stars.
Toad Slayer
For this life challenge, you’ll need to defeat 10 Splash Frogs as a Mercenary. You can find these monsters in Yohoho Cavern. As a reward, you’ll receive 350 Stars.
Watch Out for Bitey Sharks
For this life challenge, you’ll need to defeat 10 Bitey Sharks as a Mercenary. You can find these monsters in the Tropica Isles. As a reward, you’ll receive 350 Stars.
