Welcome to NGB and our Fantasy Life i walkthrough for The Angler’s Story questline! This guide will cover everything you need to know to easily complete this quest, including how to start the mission and the steps you will need to take to finish it.

How to Start The Angler’s Story Questline
To begin The Angler’s Story questline in Fantasy Life i, select the Angler Life License in Eternia Village’s Guild Office.
Next, speak with Gramps in the Angler’s Guild, which is on the eastern side of Eternia Village on the docks, to become a Novice.
Angler Life Challenges
Novice Challenges
The Fish, Cat and Angler
Exit the Angler’s Guild and speak with Sardino on the dock. He will explain the basics of fishing then task you with catching three Sardines. Fish off the dock in the small fish shallows to catch the Sardines.
Once you catch three Sardines, return to Sardino. He’ll then instruct you to sell fish at the capital. Make your way north to the Capital of Mysteria.
When you arrive, travel to the Restaurant on the southeastern side of the castle. As a reward, you’ll receive 200 Dosh.
After selling your fish, Herin will approach saying that she’s looking for Delish Fish. Unfortunately, Sardino doesn’t know where any are.
To solve this dilemma, he remembers Gramps mentioning that you can ask cats where fish are. Head up the stairs towards the castle then take a left at the fountain. Follow the path to find Whiskers near a chest.
Speak with the grey and white cat to receive some instructions.
Next, head under the bridge near the town entrance to reach a dock. On this dock, you’ll receive some more tutorials. When you’re ready, catch that Delish Fish!!
Once you have the fish, return to Herin near the Restaurant and deliver the fish. As a reward, you’ll receive 200 Dosh.
Since your trip has been successful, it is now time to report to Gramps. Return to the Angler’s Guild and speak with him to complete the challenge.
Fledgling Challenges
An Angler’s First Steps
For the An Angler’s First Steps life challenge, you’ll need to obtain 3 Mysteria Crucian by fishing. You’ll find these fish in a pond near the Carpenter’s Guild west of Eternia Village.
Fish in a Small Fish Shallow. As a reward, you’ll receive 100 Stars.
Catch Your Own Carp
For the Catch Your Own Carp life challenge, you’ll need to obtain 3 Mysteria Carp by fishing. You’ll find these fish in the pond at the top of a waterfall west of the Capital of Mysteria.
Fish in a Small Fish Shallow. As a reward, you’ll receive 100 Stars.
Caught a Tuna
For the Caught a Tuna life challenge, you’ll need to obtain 3 Tuna by fishing. You’ll find these fish in the ocean around the Capital of Mysteria. Fish in the Big Fish Shallows! As a reward, you’ll receive 150 Stars.
Plenty of Fish in the Sea
For the Plenty of Fish in the Sea life challenge, you’ll need to obtain 3 Mysteria Koi by fishing. You’ll find these fish in the pond at the top of a waterfall west of the Capital of Mysteria.
Fish in a Large Fish Shallow. As a reward, you’ll receive 100 Stars.
Poisonous Fish
For the Poisonous Fish life challenge, you’ll need to obtain 3 Pufferfish by fishing. You’ll find these fish in the ocean around the Capital of Mysteria. Fish in the Small Fish Shallows! As a reward, you’ll receive 100 Stars.
The Angler from Tunoco
For The Angler from Tunoco life challenge, you’ll need to get an Excellent while fishing 5 times. As a reward, you’ll receive 200 Stars.
Tropical Fish
For the Tropical Fish life challenge, you’ll need to obtain 3 Tunoco Fish by fishing. You’ll find these fish in the ocean south of Eternia Village.
You’ll need to fish in a Small Fish Shallow.
Weakest Fish in the Sea
For the Weakest Fish in the Sea life challenge, you’ll need to obtain 6 Sardine by fishing. You’ll find these fish in the ocean around Eternia Village. Fish in the Small Fish Shallows. As a reward, you’ll receive 100 Stars.
Apprentice Challenges
Beneath the Sunlit Trees
For the Beneath the Sunlit Trees life challenge, you’ll need to obtain 3 Parasol Fish. You can find these fish in Lulab Forest on Faraway Island.
As a reward, you’ll receive 200 Stars.
Catch the Plains Lordfish
For the Catch the Plains Lordfish life challenge, you’ll need to obtain a Plains Lordfish. You can find these fish in Banaan Cave, which is west of the Capital of Mysteria.
Enter the cave and keep heading north until you reach the area with the water in the middle of it.
There you’ll find the Plains Lordfish. As a reward for catching it, you’ll receive 500 Stars.
Lulab Trout Lullaby
For the Lulab Trout Lullaby life challenge, you’ll need to obtain 3 Lulab Trout. You can find these fish in Lulab Forest on Faraway Island.
As a reward, you’ll receive 200 Stars.
Nice Catch
For the Nice Catch life challenge, you’ll need to get an Excellent while fishing 20 times. You can do this by using the Rod Pull skill as that move on the fish. That has a high chance of triggering an excellent. As a reward, you’ll receive 300 Stars.
Nice Timing
For the Nice Timing life challenge, you’ll need to get an Excellent while fishing 10 times. As a reward, you’ll receive 300 Stars.
Quite the Bright Carp
For the Quite the Bright Carp life challenge, you’ll need to get 3 Gold Koi. You can find these fish in Lulab Forest.
As a reward, you’ll receive 500 Stars.
Shimmer in the Forest
For the Shimmer in the Forest life challenge, you’ll need to get 3 Faraway Sweetfish. You can find these fish in Lulab Forest on Faraway Island.
As a reward, you’ll receive 200 Stars.
The Angler from Faraway
For The Angler from Faraway life challenge, you’ll need to catch 15 fish in Faraway Island. Please note that the fish caught in Lulab Forest do not count! You must fish in the ocean around Idylla Village. As a reward, you’ll receive 200 Stars.
The Green Machine
For The Green Machine life challenge, you’ll need to obtain 3 Green Fish. You can get these fish in Lulab Forest.
If you enter the forest from the Valley of Spirits, you’ll want to head for the pond in the southeastern corner of the area. Entering from Idylla Village, you’ll want to head for the body of water in the eastern part of the area, near the golden crowned enemy. Once you’re at your pond of choice, you’ll want to fish for the Small Fish Shadow named fish. These are the ones that have a chance to be our target. As a reward for catching three fish, you’ll receive 200 Stars.
Adept Challenges
Angel of the Sea
For this life challenge, you’ll need to obtain 3 Angelfish. These fish can be found in Big Fish Shallows in the ocean around Piccas Resort in the Tropica Isles. As a reward, you’ll receive 300 Stars.
Can’t Hide From Me
For this life challenge, you’ll need to obtain 3 Sneaky Tuna. These fish can be found in Big Fish Shadows in Da Finci Cave B1 and Yohoho Cavern.
As a reward, you’ll receive 350 Stars.
Catch the Cherry Lordfish
For this life challenge, you’ll need to obtain 1 Cherry Lordfish. To find this fish, enter the Lulab Forest on Faraway Island from the Valley of Spirits then travel to the southeastern corner.
There you’ll find this Level 25 Cherry Lordfish. As a reward, you’ll receive 700 Stars.
Catch the Forest Lordfish
For this life challenge, you’ll need to obtain 1 Forest Lordfish. To find this fish, enter the Lulab Forest on Faraway Island from Idylla Village then head to the southeastern corner.
There you’ll find the Level 25 Forest Lordfish. As a reward, you’ll receive 700 Stars.
Flying High
For this life challenge, you’ll need to obtain 3 Flying Fish. These fish can be found in Small Fish Shadows in the ocean around Piccas Resort in the Tropica Isles. As a reward, you’ll receive 300 Stars.
Friend of Anemone
For this life challenge, you’ll need to obtain 3 Clownfish. These fish can be found in Small Fish Shadows in the ocean around Piccas Resort in the Tropica Isles. As a reward, you’ll receive 300 Stars.
I’ll Find You
For this life challenge, you’ll need to obtain 3 Sneakfish. These fish can be found in Small Fish Shadows in Da Finci Cave B1 and Yohoho Cavern. As a reward, you’ll receive 350 Stars.
Reel in a Meal
For this life challenge, you’ll need to obtain 3 Tropica Bream. These fish can be found in Big Fish Shadows in the ocean around Piccas Resort in the Tropica Isles. As a reward, you’ll receive 300 Stars.
Tastes Like… Lemon?
For this life challenge, you’ll need to obtain 3 Kissyfish. Kissyfish can be found in Small Fish Shadows in the ocean around Piccas Resort in the Tropica Isles at night. When you see a Small Fish Shadow, look to see if the fish icon is blue or green. The Kissyfish can be found in the Small Fish Shadows with a green icon.
As a reward, you’ll receive 350 Stars.
The Angler from Tropica
For this life challenge, you’ll need to get an Excellent 30 times while fishing. As a reward, you’ll receive 400 Stars.
Expert Challenges
Beautiful Skies
For this life challenge, you’ll need to use the High and Dry skill 20 times. As a reward, you’ll receive 350 Stars.
Catch the Coldwater Tuna
For this life challenge, you’ll need to get an Excellent 1 time when fishing Coldwater Tuna. You can find Coldwater Tuna in Yohoho Cavern, which is in the Tropica Isles.
As a reward, you’ll receive 600 Stars.
Catching the Bass of Darkness
For this life challenge, you’ll need to obtain 3 Bass of Darkness. The Bass of Darkness can be found in the ocean on the west side of the Tropica Isles.
It will be northwest of Yohoho Cavern. As a reward, you’ll receive 400 Stars.
Catching the Swordfish
For this life challenge, you’ll need to obtain 3 Swordfish in the Tropica Isles. You can find Swordfish on the south side of the island containing Profunda Cave in the Tropica Isles.
As a reward, you’ll receive 400 Stars.
Da Finci Fisher
For this life challenge, you’ll need to obtain 15 fish in Da Finci Cave B1. Da Finci Cave can be found in the Tropica Isles. As a reward, you’ll receive 550 Stars.
Frenzied Fishing
For this life challenge, you’ll need to use the Rod Heave I skill 20 times. As a reward, you’ll receive 350 Stars.
Holiday Fisher
For this life challenge, you’ll need to obtain 15 fish. As a reward, you’ll receive 550 Stars.
Operation: Bagging the Bass
For this life challenge, you’ll need to get an Excellent 1 time while fishing Bass of Darkness. The Bass of Darkness can be found in the ocean on the west side of the Tropica Isles. It will be northwest of Yohoho Cavern. As a reward, you’ll receive 950 Stars.
Operation: Swordfish Snatching
For this life challenge, you’ll need to get an Excellent 1 time while fishing Swordfish. You can find Swordfish on the south side of the island containing Profunda Cave in the Tropica Isles.
As a reward, you’ll receive 600 Stars.
Profunda Fisher
For this life challenge, you’ll need to obtain 15 fish in Profunda Cave. Profunda Cave can be found in the Tropica Isles. As a reward, you’ll receive 550 Stars.
Scaling the Problem
For this life challenge, you’ll need to obtain 50 Fish Scales. You’ll receive Fish Scales simply by fishing and catching fish around the Tropica Isles. You can also find them on the beaches along the water. As a reward, you’ll receive 350 Stars.
The Golden Swordfish
For this life challenge, you’ll need to obtain 3 Golden Swordfish. These fish can be found off the dock west of the House in the northwestern corner of the Tropica Isles.
As a reward, you’ll receive 600 Stars.
Yohoho Fisher
For this life challenge, you’ll need to obtain 15 fish in Yohoho Cavern. Yohoho Cavern can be found in the Tropica Isles. As a reward, you’ll receive 550 Stars.
Master Challenges
Call its Name…
For this life challenge, you’ll need to obtain 3 Evil Carp from Depths-B3. As a reward, you’ll receive 900 Stars.
Catch the Bluescale Lordfish
For this life challenge, you’ll need to get an Excellent 1 time while fishing Bluescale Lordfish. As a reward, you’ll receive 1500 Stars.
Catfished
For this life challenge, you’ll need to obtain 3 Cave Catfish from Depths-B2 Hall.
As a reward, you’ll receive 600 Stars.
Deeper Angling
For this life challenge, you’ll need to obtain 15 fish in Depths-B3. As a reward, you’ll receive 900 Stars.
It Devours the Light
For this life challenge, you’ll need to obtain 3 Blackgill from Depths-B2 Hall. As a reward, you’ll receive 600 Stars.
Gramps’ Secret Moves
For this life challenge, you’ll need to use Rippin’ Lips skill 20 times. As a reward, you’ll receive 400 Stars.
Out of the Ice
For this life challenge, you’ll need to obtain 3 Smelt from Depths-B3. As a reward, you’ll receive 600 Stars.
See Right Through You
For this life challenge, you’ll need to obtain 3 Skeleton Fish from Depths-B3. As a reward, you’ll receive 600 Stars.
The Angler of the Deep
For this life challenge, you’ll need to obtain 15 fish in the Depths-B2. As a reward, you’ll receive 900 Stars.
The Bluescale Lordfish
For this life challenge, you’ll need to obtain 3 Bluescale Lordfish from the Cave of Trials B3. As a reward, you’ll receive 1300 Stars.
The Fish’s Gem
For this life challenge, you’ll need to obtain 3 Quartzfish from Depths-B3. As a reward, you’ll receive 900 Stars.
The Rainbow Wing Brigade
For this life challenge, you’ll need to get an Excellent 1 time while fishing Rainbow Flying Fish. As a reward, you’ll receive 1300 Stars.
The Silver Wing Brigade
For this life challenge, you’ll need to obtain 3 Rainbow Flying Fish from the southwestern beach of Swolean Island. As a reward, you’ll receive 900 Stars.
The Swimming Cactus
For this life challenge, you’ll need to obtain 3 Cactus Fish from Depths-B2 Hall. As a reward, you’ll receive 600 Stars.
