How to Start the Permanent Retirement Quest

Ocheeva giving you the contract for the Permanent Retirement quest in Oblivion Remastered

To begin the Permanent Retirement quest in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, you must first complete the Assassin’s Gambit Dark Brotherhood quest. Upon doing so, you’ll begin Permanent Retirement automatically.

To complete this contract, you’ll need to take out Adamus Phillida, a recently retired Imperial Legion officer. He has a history with the Dark Brotherhood, and it’s time to put that history to rest!

Located Adamus Phillida

To find Adamus, you’ll need to travel to Leyawiin, which can be found south of the Imperial City near Blackwood. Specifically, he makes his home at the City Watch Barracks near the North East Gate. A guard always accompanies the retired officer, and he follows the same daily routine. He’ll visit the Coast Guard Station just outside the North East Gate, go for a swim, and never puts himself in harm’s way. He also sleeps in the City Watch Barracks, where he takes off his armor.

Kill Adamus

The best time we found to take him out was during his daily swim. This happens in a small pond just west of Leyawiin Castle. His guard will stand on the sidewalk while Adamus swims into the lake’s center. For us, this happened between 2:30 and 3:30 PM.

While he was swimming, we stood under an overhang on the north side of the pond. You’ll want to ensure you have a bow and equip yourself with the special arrow you got from Ocheeva. Use it to shoot him with the arrow (we aimed for his face). This should kill him instantly, allowing you to swim up and take his finger (along with all of the keys he has).

Plant the Finger (Bonus)

To earn the bonus for this mission, you’ll need to take Adamus’ finger and leave it on the desk of his Imperial Legion successor. To do so, travel to the Imperial City Prison in the Imperial City. If you fast travel there and take a left before the stairs, you should see the door to the Imperial Legion Offices. Use one of the keys you got from Adamus to unlock the door and head inside.

Once inside, approach the desk and interact with it. To satisfy the bonus, you’ll need to place your finger on the desk by selecting it from your inventory.

Before leaving, on the left side of the desk, you’ll find the commander’s chest that you can open with one of the keys you looted from Adamus. There may be some loot inside worth your while!

Return to the Dark Brotherhood Sanctuary

Return to the Dark Brotherhood Sanctuary and inform Ocheeva that the contract is complete. This will complete the quest, rewarding you with 200 gold and promotion to the Assassin Rank. If you managed to complete the bonus, you’ll receive an additional 500 gold.
