How to Start the Dark Brotherhood Questline

To start the Dark Brotherhood questline in the Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, you’ll need to murder someone! Upon doing so, you’ll get a prompt about a mysterious force watching you. After you see that prompt, travel to an inn or someplace with a secure bed you can sleep in and use it to rest. This will prompt Lucien Lachance to visit you and offer you a place in the Dark Brotherhood if you manage to complete a task for him.
An easy way to begin this questline would be to complete the Two Sides of the Coin quest, choosing the option to kill Arnora. Doing so should trigger Lucien’s visit.
The Dark Brotherhood Questline Guide
The quest structure for the Dark Brotherhood alternates between a quest that tasks you with accepting a contract, followed by another quest that covers the contract you accepted. You’ll repeat this process for most of the Dark Brotherhood’s questline. Below you’ll find a list of all the quests that are part of the questline with links to their corresponding guide. The quests without links are the accept a contract quests, which require you to speak with Vicente Valtieri or Ocheeva to accept a contract.
We are still working through the Dark Brotherhood quests and will add more guides as we progress in the game!
