How to Start the A Challenger Approaches Affinity Mission
In Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition, affinity and main story missions are unique in that you can only undertake one at a time. If you begin an affinity mission, you won’t be able to start a main story mission, and vice versa. Furthermore, you can only have one affinity or story mission active at any given time.
The A Challenger Approaches affinity mission in Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition can be found at the BLADE Barracks in NLA’s Administrative District. The recommended level for this mission is 46, while the required level is 42. To begin this mission, you must complete Chapter 9 and the “Prospective Partners” affinity mission. The primary destination is Oblivia.
A Challenger Approaches Overview
Deliver the letter from Director General Chausson and join forces with the Wrothians.
Objectives
- Head to Oblivia’s Wrothian Stronghold
- Defeat Ga Buidhe, Zo Borri, and Zo Fwar
- Obtain five med kits from the storage supply room in Sylvalum’s Hilal Stronghold
- Obtain five med kits from Jeffery in front of the restricted hangar in the administrative district
- Talk to Ga Jiarg in Oblivia’s Wrothian Stronghold
A Challenger Approaches Walkthrough
After accepting the mission, travel to Oblivia and head for FN Site 315 in Alexander Ridge. You’ll then want to approach the nearby objective marker to trigger a cutscene. When it concludes, you’ll be thrust into battle against a level 46 Ga Buidhe and 2 level 44 fellow Wrothians. Emerging victorious will earn you an audience with the prince via another cutscene.
To ally with the Wrothians, you must collect medical supplies in the form of 5 med kits to help heal the prince’s injured people. There are two ways you can go about it. Option one is to travel to the Hilal Stronghold in Sylvalum and loot them from the storeroom there.
The second option is to purchase them from Jeffery. You can reach him by traveling to the Hangar in the Administrative District and then heading to the southwestern section just outside the hangar where the vehicles are parked. He’ll be standing some green medical tents.
Speak with him to ask about the med kits. He’ll then offer to sell you 5 for 100,00 credits.
Regardless of which route you decide to take, return to the Wrothian Stronghold once you have the five med kits and speak with Ga Jiarg. This will trigger one last cutscene where the Wrothians will agree to an alliance until the Ganglions have been defeated.

As a reward for completing the A Challenger Approaches affinity mission, you’ll receive the following:

- Ga Jiarg
- Ga Buidhe
- Photon Saber Art “Sky Sunder”
- New AM: Wrothian Six Stars
- Ga Jiarg will become a party member
