How to Start the Close Encounters Mission
To begin the Close Encounters mission in Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition, speak with Sarona in the Administrative District. This quest becomes available after completing Chapter 6, and the recommended level for this mission is 28.
Close Encounters Walkthrough
You agreed to join the Prospector Sarona in her survey of Primordia’s north mountain.
Talk to Sarona on the second terrane of Primordia’s Talon Rock
Travel to Talon Rock, which is south of Plundered Ruin, and speak with Sarona.
Use FrontierNav to gather three lionbone borts
Place a mining probe at one of the following FN Sites:
- Primordia – FN Site 115
- Oblivia – FN Site 301
Use FrontierNav to gather two pieces of foucaultium
Place a mining probe at one of the following FN Sites:
- Primordia – FN Site 108 and FN Site 111
Talk to Sarona on the second terrane of Primordia’s Talon Rock
Return to Sarona and speak with her.
Talk to Sarona on the Third Terrane of Primordia’s Talon Rock
Travel east of Talone Rock Second Terrane to find and speak with Sarona, again.
Defeat the slab cinicula on Primordia’s Arendt Bridge
Head north of Northpointe Beach to find the Level 24 Slab Cinicula and take it out!
Talk to Sarona on the Third Terrane of Primordia’s Talon Rock
Once the giant bug has been dealt with, return to Sarona at the Third Terrane to tell her the coast is clear.
Head to Castaway Cavern in Primordia
Make your way north across the Arendt Bridge, where you fought the giant bug to reach Castaway Cavern. Speak with Sarona near the entrance to trigger an event.
Defeat the Abyssal Blatta in Castaway Cavern
Follow Sarona into the cavern. The enemies found in this cavern will be around the mid-twenties. In the northeastern part of the cavern, you’ll find a tunnel that you can swim through to reach the area with the alien. Interact with the alien to trigger a cutscene. The Close Encounters mission will then end.

As a reward for completing the Close Encounters mission, you’ll receive the following:
