How to Begin the Save the Gondians Quest

You’ll start the Save the Gondians quest during your visit to the Iron Throne as part of the Blade of Frontiers companion quest.

Save the Gondians Walkthrough

Save Hostages and Escape the Iron Throne

In the Iron Throne, you’ll have just 6 turns to save all of the hostages before the place blows. You can do this by leveraging teleportation spells, potions that increase your movement, and other skills that can make you travel farther faster.

Check on the Survivors

After you have managed to escape the Iron Throne, speak with the survivors. They will ask that you liberate their families from being forced to work at the Steel Watch Foundry.

Go to the Steel Watch Foundry

To reach the Steel Watch Foundry, travel to the southwestern part of Lower City, just west of the Grey Harbour Docks. You’ll need to pick the lock on the main gate and then sneak inside. If the watchers spot you, you can leave and keep trying to sneak in without them seeing you.

Alternatively, you can just take them out and then head for the front door, which you’ll also need to pick the lock on.

Now that the door is unlocked head inside and pass through the Double Iron Doors. You’ll arrive just in time to witness the workers rebel against their captors. Join in on the fight and help them out.

After defeating some of the black guards, some will drop a Motivator. You’ll need to interact with it to deactivate the device quickly. If it goes off, this will kill the Gondians. You will need to deactivate the device, even if all of the enemies have been defeated.

Combat will end once all the enemies are defeated and devices are deactivated. As a side note, the guards seemed focused on attacking the Gondians during the fight, so consider that when planning how to deal with them.

Talk to Zanner Toobin

Speak with Zanner Toobin, who will ask if his daughter is okay. She was one of the captives at the Iron Throne, so give him the new one way or the other. Zanner will then mention that their next destination is the Neurocitor.

If you guide him there, he can take care of the rest. If you have the runepoweder bomb from the Avenge the Ironhands quest, you can choose that option. Zanner will then point you in the right direction.

Explore the Steel Watch Foundry’s Depths

Start heading for the Neurocitor further in the facility to place the bomb. If you looted all of the guards, you’ll have obtained a key that unlocks the security office. Head through there on the southwestern side of the room.

From there, take the steps down to reach the Lab Level. There will be another group of Gondians fighting off the guards. Help them out, then head for the Control Centre Antechamber once all enemies have been neutralized. You’ll need to loot the Control Level Key off one of the guards to open the door (or just pick the lock).

In the next room, feel free to interact with the brains in the jars. After you’re done with that, head through the Control Centre doors. Approach the center of the room to start a fight against 3 Hellfire Watchers and Steel Watcher Titan.

They all three like to inflict maim on you, which prevents you from moving, and then when their health gets around 50, they trigger their self-destruct protocol. The Steel Watcher Titan will also enter a bulwark status where it has extra health and will launch a salvo in a specified area, so avoid that.

When its health gets low, it will start to self-destruct as well. Make sure to hammer away at it to break its stance so that this doesn’t happen.

Once you finish them all off, interact with the Neural Switchboard on the east side of the room. You can select the intelligence check option to learn more about it and that it controls every watcher. You’ll then be able to plant the runepowder bomb on the Neurocitor or have Zanner work his magic.

After the big finale, you’ll meet up with Zanner outside, where Wulbren of the Ironhands will make an appearance. He’ll say that now all that’s left is to kill all of the Gondians. You’ll then have the choice to side with him or instill a new leader. One by the name of Barcus Wroot.

Doing the latter will result in Wulbren being exiled while also threatening his revenge! The Save the Gondorians quest will then be completed.
