How to Start the Man-Eater in the Mine Quest
You can start the Man-Eater in the Mine quest by visiting the Recruitment Centre at Thoroughfare Square in Marira and accepting the Alpha Rockworm Valmo bounty. It should become available starting on 07/05.
Man-Eater in the Mine Quest Walkthrough
We will be in Man-Eatter’s Grotto during a storm, which means the monsters will be a bit tougher, and you’ll not get extra actions when hitting the enemy’s weakness. That will apply to the Alpha Rockworm Valmo as well.
Gather Intel
Travel to the Visca Alba Tavern and speak with the Informed Man inside. Then, you’ll want to purchase the “Vermin of Man-Eater’s Grotto” information. It will tell you that you’ll need to slay all of the Rockworm Valmo at once, or another will enter the fray immediately. He’ll also mention that it’s weak to ice. You’ll also find bug and flower monsters in the cave who will try to paralyze you with their attacks.
Set Out For Man-Eater’s Grotto
When ready, head to your Gauntlet Runner and set a course for Man-Eatter’s Grotto. Along the way, you’ll pass Komego village. Feel free to stop in and check out the shop if you wish. Press on to reach the grotto.
Man-Eatter’s Grotto
When you reach Man-Eatter’s Grotto, you’ll be on the 4th floor. Head staring from the entrance, then drop down the ledge at the end. From there, you’ll exit the room on the northwest side, take a fight, and follow the hallway.
When you reach the pair of stone rocks in the shape of columns, head left past them, going down a set of stairs to the next area. You’ll then round a corner and jump down from another ledge. This will put you on the 1st (bottom) floor. Head to the southwestern corner of the area and use the dirt ramp there to reach the 2nd floor. You’ll know you’re in the right place when you spot a soldier nearby. Take a right at the soldier heading north. You’ll want to follow the path to the northwestern corner of the area. This will bring you to a shut door leading to our bounty with a Plateau Mirage next to it.
Boss Fight: Alpha Rockworm Valmo
You’ll face a pair of Level 29 Alpha Rockworm Valmos for this fight. As we learned from the intel, they are weak to ice. They also resist Slash, Piercing, and Stike attacks, so you’ll want to ensure that every party member has inherited Blizz. Additionally, you’ll want to bring a Mage and put Medi on them for healing or a Healer putting Blizz on them. The sandworms have a variety of attacks you’ll need to deal with. Sandstorm is their most common, which hits the whole party and decreases hit/evasion. They also have Paralysis Fang, which can paralyze a party member; Fire Breath, which can inflict burn; and Strong Acid, which will lower the defense of its target.
Our strategy for this fight was to damage one worm at a time, stopping when its health had a sliver left and switching to the other. You’ll need to defeat them both in the same turn. Otherwise, the surviving one will summon another Alpha Rockworm Valmo during its next turn with full health. Once it goes, you’ll retrieve the Alpha Rockworm Eye needed for the bounty.
Turn In the Bounty
Return to the Recruitment Centre to turn in the bounty. This will complete the quest, rewarding you with 20,000 reeve and four points in the Courage Royal Attribute.
